I was remembering my art classes in grade school and HS. How three of us, by the time we reached freshman HS, were doing what could easily be classed as college level art work and were basically exploring and learning any techniques that we wanted. That reminded me of the trips we and a few other older students would take to NYC to visit the museums. Our usual escort to the city was Alistair Cooke. If we were unlucky we'd have one of the teachers aids as an chaperon. Alistair was a friend of the family for a few of us and friends with the art teacher too. Also he usually had to travel into the city for the stuff he did for PBS. Alistair would escort us to the museum and then go do his PBS stuff. We'd then be free to split up into whatever sized groups and spend as much or as little time at each exhibit. At the end of the day he'd meet us and we'd head home. The teachers aids try to keep us together as a group. Frustrating as we all had our own areas of art we wanted to explore.

5k = overkill. better to go with twin axles for that kind of weight.
i would think adding on to an m101 would be cheaper than what you are discussing. you would need to add a tailgate, some modest armour
m101s just have a parking brake. they are 800lbs empty so they do not need brakes unless you really load them up. with a really full load on the trip to moab the 80's brakes were never an issue.
|
In Californiastan trailers > 1K lbs require brakes.
I would like the 5K axle for the occasional load of gravel or dirt up to the bedrails. But you are probably correct. Overkill.

Yeah, something like 866 point swing in three hours. Do that a few more times, please. All going up, that is.
The volumes are insane.
