yeah those are not TCM codes.

those codes are interesting though. you are missing a whole bunch of sensor signals. i am surprised your truck is running. what are your symptoms again?

grrl, i do not have a 3FE engine FSM or I would look up those codes for you to try to figure it out. I don't recognize or understand the missing signals they mention. If you could identify and understand where they came from it might point the way...

drives like shit.

That is, sluggish. You have to really stomp on the gas to get it to go, them is revvs really high and *kinda* goes.

The shifting is also sorta random. Sometimes it's slow to shift. Sometimes it shifts a little hard.

Feels like I'm driving with the brakes on. But with my foot off the gas, it still goes.

If I let off the gas, it starts deccelerating rapidly.

I need both a shotgun and rifle. I may get the rifle as a .22 PCP air rifle so it is nice an quiet. It's for mofers around the barn yard. Shotgun will have both rifled and non rifled barrels. I'll use it for deer and big mofers. May get a .22 PCP hand gun too for those pesky mofers that come up to the cat dishes.

one diy option you have is to crawl under the truck and disconnect and clean all the harness connectors to the transmission with contact clean and then give them some dieletric grease, and then pull the centre console inside the truck and do the same.

also, does a 62 have obd1 check engine diagnostic codes? if so, it might also have TCM codes, aka transmission control module. if you have the FSM you can read about how to pull those codes at the front of the transmission section. On an early 80 it just takes a paperclip to jump two connectors in the DSC box and then you count the light flashes on your dash and it tells you what the problem is. There is also a series of driving tests in the FSM you can do that help you diagnose the problem based on transmission behaviour.
It's not an electronically controlled transmission. It's purely mechanical.

if your truck had obd1 codes then i think it had tcm codes too, but did you pull transmission codes or just standard check engine codes? they are different and regular engine codes tell you nothing about the tranny because toyota used to have a separate transmission ecu called the tcm. if you did pull TCM codes you need to know what were they because they will point directly at your problem.
No TCM on an FJ62. No ECT.

It takes a hell of a lot more than that to take down a 3FE. If it can get past the safety switch bullshit and start then it will run. The most those things will do is make you run rich after that.

She already replaced the TPS I think.

It's a hell of a lot more convenient and reliable to have a regular .22 firearm. If you shoot Aquila Super Colibri's it's just as quiet as an airgun and it's ready to go all the time, no worries about keeping the tank pressurized, etc.. You also have the choice of using more powerful ammunition to dispatch larger mofers. I killed a big raccoon, about 30 lbs, a couple weeks ago with my .22.

Airguns are kind of fun and novel but not nearly as practical as a cartridge fed firearm.

Fuck I wish I could just be there and drive it. I know I could diagnose it for you pretty quickly.

That could be three or four different simple little things in combination.

Or something really bad like a fucked up torque converter.

ok you seem to have a TPS problem which i think you have been trying to fix and some kind of dizzy/coil/ignition related issue so that your ECU is not getting rpm signals. That could also affect your transmission if it is depending on the ECU for rpm signals. in other words, your tranny might not know how many rpm you are turning, or may be getting an intermittent signal. it may not be your tranny but the signals it is getting from the ecu or engine sensors.

code 51 is either your ac or your tps
code 12 is a lack of rpm signal to your engine ecu at start up and is a problem with your distributor or coil -- it will starve your engine of fuel
code 43 -- also means your ecu is not getting an engine rpm signal

TuT convergence FTW! We were just discussing this place. It's 4-5 miles from the last two light rail stops East of Sacoftomatoes. We're going to look at it Saturday. 2br, 2 ba, .62 acres, 1700 ft^2, finished basement, couple of outbuildings, end of a quiet private street in a hood with mostly $750K to $2M homes
