Although, you CAN pay those county taxes in person here, if you wish. Of course, you'll have to wait in line with all the folks wishing to renew their vehicles registrations and transfer their titles because the County Tax Assessor/Collector's Office is where that all happens.

I used this recipe:
GF: Peanut Butter Granola Bar Gluten Free Gobsmacked
But used almond butter. My "base" was toasted gluten-free oats. The nuts and seeds were almonds, walnuts, pepitas, cashews, sunflower, sesame, and flax seeds*. The fruit was dried cranberries and papayas.
Very NOM, but also probably pretty calorific. I haven't entered the stats into SparkPeople yet.
* since there are so many seeds in it. I dubbed them "seedy bars"

Honey, brown sugar, and peanut butter! And all those nuts! Yeah, those probably are a little high in calories.

If I recall correctly, when we bought, you were forced to escrow the taxes and insurance unless you could cough up a downpayment in excess of 20%. We worked hard so that the rule would not apply to us.

Oh I was doing it by mail. In person would be impossible. They don't send a receipt. The taxes are due 3 months after you get the bill, and I tried to time it pretty close. Twice they marked me as late and charged me 1% per month when in fact it was in the mail on time but they only work three days a week in Republic Township and only pick up the mail on those days. It turned out to be less costly to pay the late fee than spend time trying to argue with them. I gave up and went to escrow.

Your bank sets up the escrow account? How does it know how much to disburse, and when? Do they receive the bills now?

Yes. The insurance company and the taxing authority send the bills to the bank. I receive a statement but no bill.
The bank is all set up to do this and it's all automated and electronic, so the ladies at the city clerk office can shop for shoes on the interwebs and smoke more cigarettes while they watch the money come in.
