lowtide, believe me bro, I got you. I was just asking for myself.
Believe me, I have no, nor will I ever, have any desire to have a automatic locking diff in the front of anything I drive. (I will have TRD's)

We all know what happens when you use hubs, or have them unlocked. I want to know what it's like to have them locked, or not have them. Why? Just to damn know! I'm gonna get the hubs, I want hubs no matter if I'm locked in the front or not. I'm just trying to spend even less than $80 on them.

Al, keep in mind this is chat, 99% of the people here either have no idea WTF they are talking about or they prefer to stir the pot..
Hilux. please point me to a thread where a 2F crank was put in a 3F block.
Alkaline, You are one incredibly thick headed individual.. Someone has already done what you want. Just do it and stop arguing..

Ask me any detailed questions about it.

These aren't direct performance gains but they do contribute to the durability of the engine and it's ability to rev.

I guess I'm arguing against posts of speculation based on sheep feed. I'm tired of people repeating the same responses I've seen and heard a million times before that I didn't want to even hear from the get go. Am I really that thick headed? Or am I just wanting first hand experience? Everyone's touched a hot pot before.... I would have tried this out already but I'm just a tight wad college student. Once a dirt cheap locker and some even cheaper hubs pop up, I'll be done with asking and onto experimenting.
Lowtide has said only that he has done it with hubs, I know what that's like...a 2wd 80. I want to FEEL, but have someone else's experience to compare with, a double auto lock'd open center 80.
This whole thread had nothing to do with hubs or anything other than experience with a double, or front atleast, auto locked open centered 80 or other full-time 4wd vehicle.
Lowtide, you ever drive on pavement with the hubs locked? What's that like from first hand experience?

Aren't you studying to be an engineer? Take some physics, differential equations, and dynamics. You don't need to spend the money on a locker to find out what is going to happen....

I could probably figure it out with what I've already taken....but I also know that some of the things we've figured on paper are way off from real-world situations so I don't trust it yet.
It's gonna lock and un-lock depending on certain loads in certain places when my tongue is in a certain position. But it takes driving with this setup for me to truly know what happens, when, and why in usable reasoning.

For the safety of others wait abit and get some hubs and the locker at the same time.
From personal experience, and the only experience I have to keep it locked on all 4 on pavement... It will cause more trouble than its worth.
Locked mine up to drive through a flooded waterway, just to be sure if i lost traction there was hope one of the four would grab. Got through the rapid flowing water easily, just got my feet wet from the onslaught against my door seal... Pulled up on the turn and it wouldnt do anything but go straight... This is on a flooding street making a right turn up hill. I had to go from 4hi to 2hi just to make a turn. I could feel the bind in the drivetrain, have had a horrible exhaust leak ever since... I would not/could not drive a locked AWD on pavement. IT wouldnt fly.
Consdering Im using a little 4banger, 4.10s, AUSSIEs, and 31's!
There is real life experience. On WET pavement, with 31's!
Do it, leave your truck to me in your will... I would enjoy it
BTW- I think it was Hilux that told me to check motormounts, and you was right!
