The view to post ratio for TUT #32 is over 2:1. That's some serious lurkitude!

So, the hall light is out, and won't come on no matter what bulb I put in it. It's on two three-way switches.

This is the first electrical issue since we got the house rewired a dozen years ago.

What's the best course of action? I'm thinking: buy a three-way switch, replace switch A; if that doesn't work, swap the removed switch to switch B; if that doesn't work, check wiring to fixture. And if that doesn't work, call electrician.

Ok, so I can get a custom made Lucha Libre mask made.....

You know, instead of a cycling helmet I could wear one of those. And maybe a cape!

Check the voltage at the fixture, and then test the switches and their supply.

You don't have a voltage meter? Or even a test light?

Maybe cycle the breaker?

It's not that complex of a circuit.

No voltage at fixture--at least not where the bulb screws in.

Oh, yeah, voltmeter. Guess I could use that. It's hard to see the wires, though, without the light on.

I'm pretty certain it is one of the two switches. Like you said, not that complex a circuit. It is probably one of the two moving parts.

Yeah WTF, how the fuck am I supposed to fix the light in the dark?

I often have the same lazy approach to home electrical work.

One of the dimmers in the kitchen stopped working three weeks ago. It is kind of ugly and the two switches next to each other don't match. So I went and bought two new, pretty switches to replace them both. The next day it started working again on its own. The new replacement switches are still sitting on the kitchen counter.

I know. Half of me wants to wait and see if it will fix itself.

It is probably the least-useful light in the house.

Yes. I cut and pasted them and then renumbered by hand. It was quicker than searching for answers.

I know there is a way to convert the document so that the notes are turned into straight text, but I just can't remember what it is.

it's not like Ross and I didn't repeatedly post it

"remove field codes" is the Endnote command
