Kills me when people say, "I like hot stuff" and then they try what you are eating and they almost die.
Funny stuff.

Crystal is awesome. Great flavor but not very hot. It is super cheap too. Its like $1 for a huge bottle.

That Dave's stuff tastes like arse. There are so many really good hot sauces out there, I don't know why anybody would prefer one that you can safely add only a drop or two to food. If you want to mess up your drinking buddies, though, it makes a killer prairie fire. (it ends the party for everybody who doesn't go to emerg)
I bought Todd's book used when I found out it existed and have been meaning to try to fill a fountain pen with some hot sauce and get him to sign it.

Dave's and similar stuff isn't sauce. It doesn't improve the flavor, it just hurts for no reason.
I'm having a bowl of mac and cheese with sriracha (Rooster) sauce right now.

Tabasco is my stand by and I use it on almost everything. For wings I use Franks, and I keep some Cholula around for occasional use.
The rest?
Meh. Most just bring heat without adding flavor.

Dave's is pretty much concentrated pepper spray, no flavor just lots of heat, definitely more of a novelty than something you would actually use. I had a friend who would raid my fridge in college, well my roommates and I got tired of that so we spiked a batch of chicken and rice with Dave's, lots of it. Freeloader comes over and makes himself a big ol plate and eats about a quarter of it, then the heat kicks in. This guy was running around the house like a madman, sticking his head in the freezer, putting frozen mugs in his mouth, pouring milk on his tongue, sticking his head in the shower, pounding slices of bread down, anything to stop the burn. He learned his lesson, and we got a good laugh out of it.
I love tobasco, but damn, why is that 6 bucks for a bottle of vinegar, peppers and salt, when crystal is $1.30 for the same size bottle with essentially the same ingredients. I like it enough that I will pay it but it still bothers me paying for the brand, and I haven't found anything that imitates it.

There was the time I worked with this Polish guy named Ivan. He was a tough guy always bragged about everything. He liked hot stuff and thought he could handle anything. I told him about this sauce I had called Spontaneos combustion. I brought it in to work and at lunch break I brought it out. I warned/suggested that he try a single drop, this stuff is seriously insanely hot. He proceeded to dash it all over one piece of his sandwich bread. He took a single bite and about 30 seconds later he ran to the trash can to spit it all out, then he threw away his sandwich.
Ivan was'nt so tough...
It was funny because you had to appreciate Ivan. He was a toughguy that would go out of his way to make you see that he was a badass. I knew what would happen, (what he would do as a braggart) and I am guilty for setting it up, but I could not resist. I was 100% honest in my warnings.
I forgot to mention that leading up to this day he would bring in hot peppers and other stuff and brag about how he could handle the hottest of the hot.

Texas Pete's is for girls like skillet.
Properly proportioned salsa is where its at and you have to make it from scratch.

X2 on Cholula and Tapatio.
I'll get weird ones to try now and then too. Texas Pete and Franks are good staples too.
Dave's Insanity and all those other "Ass in Space" sauces are gimmicky to me. All pepper concentrate and no flavor.
Tabasco is the General Motors of hot sauces. Though their Chipotle one is pretty good.

Reverse the Tabasco, and Cholula and I'll say X2...
Cholula, and Tapatio are about even for me.. love em both!
Frank's for wings, The original! Best f-ing wing sauce.
and Sriacha (rooster) for asian foods
I only use Tabasco when I'm out of something else.
That Dave's stuff is made to screw your friends over, that's all it's good for.
Mmmm I'm going to make me some wings tonight.... (rubbing belly)

Those two are really all I need.
All Cruiserheads that like hot sauce should own this book. Yes, the author is who you think it is. I own it. I will get it autographed some day.

I have that book...but have never had it handy when I've been in the presence of the author
