xbox 360 freezing

I know it's not uncommon. I have not been playing my xbox360 much at all, but lately i have started playing it again. It seems to freeze a lot, which it never did much at all before.

Is there a software patch i dont know about or a fix for this or is it just part of the joy of owning another microsoft product?

Are you getting the RROD when it freezes? Have you put it in a confined space? They need to breathe.

what is PROD?

It is in my entertainment center, however when i'm playing it i leave the doors open so it can get air to it and stay cool.

Take it out of your entertainment center. They need lots of cooling or they will overheat very easily. All my gamer friends have cooling fans for theirs.

Red Ring of Death. Basically the epoxy on the motherboard or something starts to melt and kills your 360. It is more common on older machines. I'd definitely pull it out of the entertainment center and set it on the floor with room to breath, if I were you.

I know a couple of people that get the red ring temporarily and it goes away.... for most it is a one time occurance and you are shipping to Microsoft or buying a new 360.

OK, i bet that overheating is what is happening then. I will take it out of the entertainment center.

I have not got the PROD. The screen will just freeze, the sound still plays, but you can't do shit. So i just get up and hit the power button to reset it.

Just happened to mine this week. Second one so far. Luckily, I buy from Costco and just take them back there.

When i frst bought mine - i got the red ring, at least mocrosoft was cool about it, they shipped a box to send it back in and got it back to me quickly........until it happened again!

I made them ship me an entirely different unit. I told them if it had the same serial number it was going right back. Since then (2yrs) i have had no problems.

what really scares me is the fact that i won my xbox. So i have no receipt or anything. It was a new unit, but still, no store to take it back to. :(

I can get the microsoft number for you if you need it. I just had a friend ship his back. they will cover the RROD for 3 years or something.... It's pretty quick and easy, they ship you a box, you ship them an xbox, then they ship you an xbox. My buddy got his back in about a week.

I am one of the few lucky ones that got the RROD and reset the system(by turning it off) and it went away.

All you guys preaching the cooling fans. Be careful. If you put a cooling fan on your xbox 360 you will VOID YOUR WARRANTY. I don't know if there is a way for Microsoft to tell if you have had the cooling fan on the box or not but it will void the warranty.

That fan is not made, nor marketed by Microsoft. It was developed by another company, and as my post above this one states, Microsoft will void your warranty if you install this fan.

It is kind of like taking a trail rated jeep on the trail.
