I am unlucky in that for some reason Danners murder my feet. They're just the wrong shape, I guess. Bought a pair of Danner Arcadias a few years back and wore them maybe ten times. They kill me.

I switched to Scarpa GoreTex hikers, and I love 'em. Best boots ever.

Mine are like this but black:

THe only real downside is they're not approved for uniform wear, but Danners are. So it's either Danners (no) or gov't issue (better but not nearly as good as the Scarpas).

I finally retired my Danner Acadias that I bought in the late 80's. Had dirt from most of the continents in those treads. Jumped out of them, sometimes swam in them (hated that). Will be sorely missed.

Have had my Danners for too many years to remember now. They are still kickin also. Not sure of style but we could wear them in the military until we changed to sand boots for good now.

Great boots.

I've always been a Merrell fan, but picked up my first pair of Danners a few weeks ago. Looking forward to them, they fit good, and were an uninsulated leather boot...

I have had a set of Acadias that were part of issue from the SEALs, still wear 'em, they are awesome! Now we have the all leather version as our station/EMS boot at work. There is a factory R&D guy using our dept to test out a new leather bunker boot, they look like they will be very nice! I don't know where your at now Wristy, but every summer (or every other summer?) they have a huge sale at the factory store on airport way, there are tents set up with bins full of boots, for next to nothing.

My Danner Super Rain Forests are the best boots I have had.

Simply the finest Boot made on the planet. Their one flaw, they are made to fit narrrow feet. My wife has had a pair for 2 decades. They are still basically as new. Danner pioneered the integrated goretex sock (Oregon, du). Sandy seems bound and determined to follow me wherever I go. Her boots have seen it all without leaking or failure of any kind. Worth every penny.

Have had a pair of acadias since early 90's when I carried a pack, radio, and rifle for a living, love 'em. Deployed with me to more than a few countries, jungle, desert, in the ocean, and have never let me down. Danner's re-work services are excellent.

Got a pair of the desert Acadias in '03 when they first came out for a trip to the sand box, meh

Not impressed at all. Still have them, still use them, but they have not weathered the last 5 or so years as well as my original Acadias which are more than 3 times as old.

The more expensive ones that are still made in Oregon are great boots. The lower priced ones are now made overseas and seem to be hit-and-miss. I get a $175 boot allowance every year for work, so I've tried several of the sub-$200 pairs. Some are good, some are just ok, but none of them are great.

I can't wear the Quarry - for some reason the shape of their safety toe just kills my feet.

Their customer service is still excellent though. I recently had a pair of Radical GTXs, but after about a year of use (1 year warranty), the steel shank began to tear through both soles. Eventually the soles splits across their widths. They never leaked though. Since they were out of warranty I just sent an email to the customer service people explaining what I thought was a design flaw that created a weak point in the sole. They replied right away and asked me to send mine back for a free replacement

You definetly get what you pay for. I figure the 300 bucks is well worth the price averaged over the life of the boot.

Absolutely. I just won't wear my $300+ boots to work when they buy me decent enough boots to tear up on their dime.

I've worn Danner's exclusively since 1990! Fort Lewis Go Devils 10", several separate pairs of Danner Recon's 8", and now several separate pairs of Danner Agitators (cross training things). Awesome boots. For the poster that stated they hurt, were you using your inserts with them or not? Reason I ask is without the inserts long hikes up and down hilly terrain can really cause pain, with the inserts I can do a 18 mile hike up and down hills with full pack with no problemo. HTH.

The Arcadias were my #1 choice.

Are these proto boots you are talking about, will they be availible to the public?

I am real close to porkland. I never seem to get up there when the tent sale is on. I have been wanting to go for years.

The prototype is a firefighter bunker boot made for the LaCrosse brand (Danner bought LaCrosse several years ago, IIRC). I'm sure the public could buy it, but it won't be good for much else than fighting structure fires .

I think the sale is usually in July or August.
