semi-conscious sleeping problem, mind wakes before body does

All right.......Maybe a mud member goes through this, no one at work does and they think I'm nuts.

This happens about twice a year. I'll be sound a sleep and the conscious part of my brain wakes up, but my body does not. It's a creepy feeling, like your trapped. What I then have to do is channel all of my thoughts / energy to one part of my body to get it to move (like a hand or foot). As soon as I get it to move, slowly the rest of my body starts to wake. As I get the foot or had to cooperate, it often very choppy (like the nurons are only half firing - only half the spark plugs are firing).

This has been happening ever since I can remember, but damn it's creepy. Anyone else go through this?

Happens to me at about the same frequency. It absolutely terrifies me! I've even had it combined with an evil voice taunting me.
My wife is aware of it and has actually helped awaken me. I can make a barely audible scream after what seems like an eternity. This alerts her to wake me.
One of the worst things ever!!!
Good luck dude.

I had it happen once - was pretty creepy.

I heard a doctor on the radio talking about it. He said to do just what you are trying to do,relax and come to grips with it

just kidding. Sounds like something I'd rather avoid, but if it happens to me, now at least I'll know what it is...

Been through that a few times though not with the frequency that you do. I heard that it is stress related. Yes it is scary especially the first few times but try to relax and wait it out. I know that feeling of trying to scream or signal to someone that something is wrong and not being able to move or speak. Weird stuff

happens to me, only when I go to sleep. I try to wake but I can't. Holding my breath is the only thing I can do to awake.

What sucks is that you are between states. I've had my garage broke into twice, I installed a baby monitor....

see if you can see where I'm going with this.....

I'll nod off, and think I hear something in the monitor then it's like "hurry up and WAKE UP!!" "They'll get away.."

And it's hard as hell to wake myself up.

I've heard you can control what you dream about this way (interesting stuff on Coast to Coast) but I got nothing.

I have been only able to control my dreams about 3 times and it was wicked. During that time, I remember it being almost impossible to move, but it did not bother me because I wanted to stay in the dream and not wake up just yet.

:shutters:

G** DA****!

I can only see black. Can't move, can't think about something and see it...NOTHING!

So I just hold my breath and TRY to wiggle a toe or finger to wake up. Doing that, the movement sorta starts small and runs up my limb until I can move it enough to wake up.

My worst fear is to go under in an operation like that....

i want to fly....

anyone else see flashing lights and LOUD, thunderous booms?

IDK if its related

If I wake up too quickly, I can't speak. If I am startled awake (intruder noise/dream of intruder-happened twice) I find that I can't form words for about 30 seconds or so. Very weird. Body works mouth doesn't.

I think it's caused by a lack of some chemical (or the release of a hormone) and it happens to me fairly frequently (maybe monthly)

I've grown to enjoy it; now I know what is going on and it's like a game trying to get the rest of my body to respond

I have been asleep before and completly and totally crashed out, but i can hear everything, I know everything that is going on ect. Its crazy. I was snooring one time and thought i was asking who was snoring (but i aparently never made and sound when i tried to speak) and woke up and found out it was me. That happens to me fairly often. I have awoken in a startle a couple times and it was a kinda outta body experience like i could see myself and when i tried to scream or say something nothing came out... then bout 30 seconds later all was good... i dunno.. Maybe im just crazy...

Yep, happens to me too. Exactly, like twice a year. Don't like the "no control" action much. Oh well.

I've had that before. It was terrifying because I had to consiously breathe. It was like I was not automatically breathing, I had to make the decision to take each breath. Before it happened, I heard a very loud BOOM in the room, like a gunshot. My wife was awake working at the computer the whole time in the next room over. She heard nothing.

Occasionally, I will hear the very loud BOOMs. THey are authentic enought that I always get up and investigate. Always. No paralysis though.
