x6 or whatever on letting the cops get involved. A legal adult battering a minor. Even if no official charges are pressed, it at least gets his attention. One way or another, he has to respond to that. If he shapes up, all the better. If he doesn't like it, he's free to move out.

You're not his dad. And as much as you can play the part, you both know it, so when it comes down to fundamentals, you have no inherent authority in that capacity. It is your house however, so aside from the legal issues with hitting his brother, that's your best avenue of influence.

Being a step dad myself- ( to a little girl) I can sorta relate to your frustration. I think the advice that has already been given is stellar (maybe not the burning the house down) It is a thankless job that requires infinite patience. The one thing is that everyone needs to feel safe in thhe house, and if that is not possible with this fucker than out the door he goes. It is your family and your house and that is the bottom line. I hope your wife is understanding and involved in the process. These things are never easy....I wish you the best outcome.

Fear is powerful, he must be afraid of what he THINKS you may do to him. When I was 16, I had some serious attitude issues, alot of reasons but looking back none were really valid. Anyways one day after I had been talking shit to my mom, my dad comes in my room and locks the door, he then proceeds to take off his ring and watch and set them on the table, not saying a word. Then he looks at me and says get up, you wanna talk like a man then you can get yer ass kicked like a man....now I don't know if he would've or not but it scared the shit out of me and I didn't run my mouth ever again.

We just got into a huge fight a little while ago. I confronted him(yes I was very pissed) . The shit was just building. Honestly I am about done

you can kick his ass out or you can figure out what his problem is...man to man....most kids now days think the world owes them a free ride, right now your the ride....if you confront him again I would advise you do so in a non violent way last thing you want is the kid going postal....my advice is a cooling off period and then a sit down session to iron things out.....good luck...
