Raw Deal: A Question of Consent; alleged rape filmed

I did a search and didn't find any discussion on this.

It was in the new releases section the the video rental last night. Turns out to be a 2002 release of a documentary of an alleged rape which was filmed by two videocameras at a fraternity hazing at the University of Florida.

The film should be X-rated. It contains over an hour of unedited footage of an inebriated stripper being assaulted by a few guys upstairs at their fraternity house after .

Do not watch if you are at all squeamish.

Aside from the question of whether the events were consensual or not, what was shocking to me was that the young men in the videos were students at a major university. Their behavior, speech and mannerisms left me with grave concerns.

Is anyone familiar with the events?

"I'm disappointed that there are not many comments on this page, since this is a film which demands to be debated, whether it be the simple questions of "was it/wasn't it rape" or even just "should this film be shown?" Personally, after seeing the film I have no doubt that King was raped, and that Mike Yarhaus is a dangerous, disturbed man at large. And I've probably seen as much of the evidence as the State Attorney could be bothered to look at. What is shocking as that the film features interviews with people who, I think sincerely, believe that this was an act of consensual sex. While I am convinced this was rape, the film doesn't let me acquire that conviction easily - not one participant in this film gives a good account of themselves, and the differences of opinion serve to produce a worryingly reminder that the question of consent is a misleading one...

It's at the local video store, Civic Video. It's in the "Arthouse" section, but there are no videos there which are intended to satisfy the prurient interest if that's what you are asking.

Whether it was rape is the subject of the documentary. But as of the release of the documentary, criminal charges had not been made against the guy.

OZCAL: did you watch this? I'm curious, considering there's a full hour of video from the actual event, did you find that you had to turn it off? Did it screw with you a little?

I don't think I could watch it. Just the little blips you see in the trailer that rosco posted looks too disturbing. Though I will say I'm not surprised that the people involved were let off. The US justice system has a certain perceptual bias - at least it seems that way. Maybe the only justice is the fact that this documentary was put together...

The rapist doesnt see it as rape at the time,maybe not even after a conviction and they're staring at ten years

Yes and yes.

It definitely had me googling within ten minutes to see if it was a fake, like a Blair Witch Project kind of fake.

I didn't realize it would be so much raw footage until it was playing. It was interspliced with interviews with others present, police, lawyers.

I don't want to discuss it's impact too much without first seeing if someone else has seen it, or knows about the events.
