Why not? This is the whole point of dollar cost averaging. Volatility puts things on sale. I for one like to buy low and sell high. Then again if you are close to retirement and heavily positioned into equities....times are not very good for you. Asset allocation and dollar cost averaging are two of the easiest practices to get going and generate wealth. Don't look at your home value either if this is stressing you out...cause that is even more scary with the lack of liquidity.

Think long term if you can. If you don't have long, don't be wrong!
Smit

EDIT: Please don't take my comments as being an eternal optimist. Frankly, there are some very big, very real, very global messes out there. A lot of people are hurt by them. A lot of people make money off them. I for one hope that they get under control much sooner than later. Unfortunatly, there will be more shoes to drop. Commodities have enjoyed a long bull run and that bubble could burst sooner than later. Although I don't have a crystal ball, I do believe that people will still make a lot of money in the markets for my entire lifetime.

I just got a letter today saying"Currently, due to the legislative changes governing the Federal Stafford Loan program and the current US financial market, your previous student loan lender has chosen not to continue participation in the Federal Family Education Loan program ."

I know shit is getting bad now but at least I have other lenders that participate.

Yep. Sucks.

Oh, and dollar cost averaging, for all of its good sense, is NOT the equivalent of hedging. Grrrr.

Normally I get, "don't you know it's impolite to ask a woman her age?". But you can phrase it anyway you want.

I have never made a secret of my age here; hint: Dave is younger than I

for me, it's not so much looming retirement than the fact that these people are losing MY money much faster than I can earn it

Do what poor people have been doing for years. It doesn't have to be in the "stock market" to be an investment .

Seriously dude - you are broker than fuck. Why in the world would you give investment advice?

That's like Atticus giving dieting advice.
