Cool diff lock switch

Just came accross this add for a G-wagon on CL - sweet rig. Don't know much about them but they sure seem pretty damn nice.

Check out the TRICK diff lock switch!! It wouldn't be cheap but... but it's damn nice!!

They are pretty nice. And capable, too. There is an ECU that forces the buttons to be locked in sequence, i.e. you can't lock the rear before the center, or the front before the rear. I prefer the older trucks that had fully mechanical/hydraulic locking, because you could lock whatever you wanted, whenever you wanted, but I guess MB was playing to a bigger audience.

$23K is not bad for a Europa-imported G-Wagen (depending on condition, of course). I actually prefer them to the newer MBUSA trucks. You'll notice that this particular example still has the real mechanical t-case shift lever. The later MBUSA trucks went to electronic activation of Hi/Lo range.

Is that thing not full-scale? That parking space says "Compact" and the G-wagon has plenty of room to spare.

I'd say they are comparable in size to a 3rd gen 4runner, I guess maybe closer to an 80 series. They weigh in more like a suburban though.

Same exact wheelbase as an 80 and 100 Series. Much shorter front/rear overhangs and a bit narrower as well.

for the money that is a sweet deal, until I saw the a/c issue, I bet that's pricey. Still those are really bad ass trucks, gas guzzlers, but bad ass.
