If you two are around tomorrow let me know. I'll be about 1 block away from that stop most of the day.

I have a car picking me up for a quick flight home to Florida Wednesday at 12:30. The boat I am on is two away from the fireboat. Boat name is BAD INFLUENCE II. PM me for my cell phone if either of you can meet up before my 12:30 ride to the airport. Free booze on the boat.

I'll be walking by at 9:00 a.m. on the way to work. Maybe I'll swing by for a quick look, but I can't stay long, and it would be a bad idea to grab a drink on the way to work. BAD INFLUENCE indeed.

Taken at Point Judith Lighthouse....

Ran hard aground while steaming in - the boat was on autopilot and the Bridgewatch alarm was not on

I got a very eery feeling since I have worked on deck on that boat. It is so easy to fall asleep like that after fishing a whole trip (9 - 10 days).

Luckily no one was hurt or killed.

No excuse. When I used to commercial fish and was very tired it was two people on watch. One to watch the boat and the other to watch the watcher from falling asleep. Good thing he didn't get anyone killed.

Always had myself or my first mate on watch. We have dodged everything from pilings, fishing vessels and stealth patrol boats, all of which did not show up on radar. You need to always have someone on watch. Seeing is one thing. Knowing what your eyes are telling you is another thing. Glad no one was hurt. Was the vessel salvaged?
Dude whats wrong with your radar? weather?

Radar is fine. The piling was submerged, the fishing boats we didn't paint were small 20' pleasure boats, but that stealth boat was large enough for the radar to see, but it didn't.

Cross-post from the "It's official" thread. I chose this pic because of the backdrop.

Yup. Cross-post from the "It's official" thread:

Jim's a nice guy. Plied me with coffee and cinnamon rolls, then listened to my coffee-induced banter and tried not to laugh at my jaw hanging open as he showed me around. That was the first time I've been in an actual engine room--where I could stand up without hitting my head. And just about every surface is clean enough to eat off of, including the engines themselves. And the first mate is kind of easy on the eyes, too. To say I'm a little envious is an understatement. Anyway, as they say, bon voyage, Capt. Jim.
