Those of you in WA with young kids...

I'm picking up my GF's 5 y/o son today and watching him since she has to work late (gonna have him help me work on the new engine now that I have it on a stand), and since I'm picking him up in the Cruiser, I was wondering if it's legal for me to have his booster seat in the front passenger seat instead of the back seat. He's 45 lbs and it's one of those seats where the car's seatbelt serves as the restraint (plus it's made for shoulder belts).

I figure it'd be safer for him to be held in by a shoulder belt instead of just a lap belt, and given the fact that 62's don't have airbags, it seems like it'd be a no-brainer to have him up front.

But is it actually legal?

Hmm, in Michigan it's legal for them to ride in a trailer. Comes in handy when they're acting up. Wife too.

I'm pretty sure it's legal as long as he's in a car seat and strapped in.

If you get pulled over just explain to the officer what you explained here, and you should be fine.

Do it all the time with my son in my rigs. Just make sure the seat is strapped in and he is strapped to the seat..

You will see the cruiser addiction spans all ages.. I bet a 100 bucks he will have a shit eating grin from riding with you in your cruiser...

Edit: Scratch that last comment...you're in a FJ62..

Haha that's what the guys at work said, followed by "and if he gets cold strap the Gor-Tex over him"

Jman, it's on the list. I just need to get the correct cargo area trim to accomodate the belts (anyone selling some?)

Bull, his dad drives a WAY lifted F-350 that sits on 40s, has a diesel, giant chrome wheels (see where this is going?) and tons of chrome accessories. Obviously the POS is a posermobile and never leaves pavement. Yes I imagine he's a closet fag. But anyhoo, after I took my 62 to the ORV park with the boy and his mom, he said "Dan your truck is way cooler than my dad's"

And just think, he used to bone your girlfriend. Does that mean she likes closet fags?

You hit the nail on the head. The first (and only) time I met him I asked "is he compensating for something?" and her response was "you have no idea"

I was told that if all the rear seat belts are in use and then the front seat becomes an option as long it is the correct car seat and the are no air bags or they can be turned off.

Back seat when practical.

You're dating a chick with a kid.

Loser.

PS he's not your kid - what do you care if he gets hurt or cold?

Again...

That's only because I didn't know that, Mr. Edit-Puss. That'll teach me to not not subscribe to his blog.

Spook, yes it is legal. What would happen in a std cab pickup? With the lack of airbags, it's up to your discretion. Technically the safest spot would be in the middle of the back seat, but the front seat would be as safe as either side of the rear.

Good on ya for sackin' up and asking.

Hopefully you're not really that big of an asshole. You've never dated a gal with a kid by the sounds of it, likely for a reason. They're picky and typically have higher standards, so they likely took one look at you and discretely said "pass on that loser".
