I through out my desk, dressers and tv.... all free shitty stuff... but I have a lot of nice gear and other stuff....it sucks too... I couldn't find a storage unit in town... I called 8 places all full so I have to take everything home and bring it back in August... FUCK...

We hear you on the darker red. Katie is looking at a darker red, a burgundy, and another called "fine wine" that is a shade lighter. We'll post up pics of those modeled on the computer later.

We are leaning towards option 2 ourselves -- the green, but we do agree that the red needs to be reworked.

Yeah, but still cheaper than siding, and a lot less than siding, as well. Now, there are some nice sidings out there that don't make it look like one of the plastic-fantastic some shade of beige tract houses that are a dime a dozen on the outskirts of town... but those are pricey.

The price we are quoted includes power washing to knock all the really loose shit off, scraping and sanding. It also includes new soffits, some minor repairs to the foundation along with painting, wrapping the windows, and some repairs to the crown moldings and stuff. We're also having the old "servant's entrance/Delivery door" taken out and shingled over and a window placed there. (The Butler's Pantry is now the downstairs shower/bathroom, so the door has been walled up on the interior side for many years) The quote also includes replacing some of the shingles that are too far gone to save.

It's gonna cost a lot, but it's still gonna be cheaper than doing siding that would look anywhere near as good.

firstly, check your siding carefully and ask a woodworker if you are not sure. where i live that kind of narrow bevel siding would have been fir not cedar at the turn of the century. i have salvaged it from several different houses to redo my old house and never saw any original cedar. It was fir on my house even though the painter insisted it was cedar and wanted to use a stain. however, any later patches and repairs would be cedar, but the original siding should be fir.

if it is cedar, keep in mind that old stabilized clear cedar is not going to bleed nearly as much as any newer repair areas. i would not worry about staining it.

what we did with our repair areas where i had to buy new cedar was sand it then prime it with a stabilizing primer that allowed us to paint with regular house paint over the top. i think it was oil based but i can't remember.

It is cedar, we know that for certain. It's very common in this area... We will have to be doing some patches of new shingles.

The tree that dominates the front yard is a red maple. About half the summer, the leaves are a bright red. Towards the end of of summer, they turn into a dark, dark green.
