This is not the first time that school has been taken to court and lost. It most likely will not be the last. For as "enlightened" and "progressive" as they make themselves out to be, they have an atrocious track record (System wide) for systematically violating the law and shitting on people.

Few years ago UW Milwaukee got the shit sued out of them (and lost) for sexual discrimination in the workplace.

They're really no better than the big, heartless corporations they constantly complain about and think they're not working for.
I was looking for the accounting department gender discrimination case that UW lost and that got me to urge my mom to apply for tenure, knowing she probably would receive it since her department was mostly male at the time. Didn't find it, but here's another similar one--apparently UW is pretty good at this sort of thing.

His house is across the street and two houses down from mine. He referred all his cataract surgery and medical eye disease patients to me from the first day I started in practice here. A super nice man, very much a doctor despite his limited training, which is not typical of optometrists; he should have been a family practice MD instead of an optometrist.

He had a huge and very loyal patient following in this town, having been at Shopko for about the last 20 years or so. I will likely pick up a lot of that business. It's a huge loss for Shopko because their other optometrist can only work part time and can't bill the most common insurance plan.

I called Mrs. yooper this afternoon when I found out and she brought some homemade soup and bread over and sat with his wife, who is still pretty numb. His daughter is college age, down state at Michigan State. His body won't make it home for a day or two it looks like.

I concur. Sad, but not a bad way to go. Kinda tough on his family though . . . having to await his arrival back home. Sean, I'm sorry for the loss of your friend/colleague.

Yeah, every so often, they get sued and lose, they dial back the bullshit for a while until people start to forget, then they start up again. Get sued again. Lose again...

That's the cycle of things it seems.

And I would have to drive sixty or seventy miles to get there through some of the most congested highways in the country.

Maybe I can store it at my MIL's house. I'm sure her 55+ community wouldn't mind me thumping through the 'hood back and forth from my Pine Barrens run.

the transport caf' prophet of doom.
Ringing no change in his double-sewn seams
in his post-war-babe gloom.

Now he's too old to Rock'n'Roll but he's too young to die.

He once owned a Harley Davidson and a Triumph Bonneville.
Counted his friends in burned-out spark plugs
and prays that he always will.
But he's the last of the blue blood greaser boys

married with three kids up by the ring road

Up on the A1 by Scotch Corner

And as he flies --- tears in his eyes ---
his wind-whipped words echo the final take

with no room left to brake.

And he was too old to Rock'n'Roll but he was too young to die.
No, you're never too old to Rock'n'Roll if you're too young to die.

Yeah. Being smart goes a long way towards not dying on a motorcycle... It's no guarantee, of course, but it helps.

From what I've discovered, there're two types of riders:

1) Statistics (or those who are bound to be one)

2) Riders who go years without incident.

The guy that owns the triumph dealer in town puts no stock in the "... those that have crashed and those that will...." cliche. He's been riding 40 years -- since he was 14, and has never gone down once.

Luck? Yeah, a bit. But mostly, it's smart choices. One of the books I sent Sean to prepare for his MSF course discussed that. The author put no stock in the ".... those that have crashed and those that will..." sentiment, but he does urge you to think like it's true.

1) Everyone on the road is trying to kill you. They woke up this morning with that express desire.

2) Everything that happens on the road is your fault. Everything. Some old lady who is too blind and deaf to safely drive her 5500 lb Town Car pulls out in front of you, it's your fault.

3) The roads are designed to kill you. Last night, the road crews were out spreading gravel and diesel fuel in all the corners, just for you.

Those are a few of the "rules" he lives by. None of them are true, but if you act like they are and ride accordingly, you have a much better chance of not dying or getting hurt.

Mean while back in the year one
When you belonged to no one
You didn´t stand a chance son
If your pants were undone

´Cause you were bread for humanity
And sold to society
One day you´ll wake in the present days
A million generations removed from expectation of
Abeing who you really want to be

Skating away
Skating away
Skating away
On the thin ice of a new day

So as you push of from the shore
Won´t you turn your head once more
And make your peace with ev´ryone
For those who choose to stayWill live just one more day
To do the things they should have done

And as you cross the wilderness
Aspinning in your emtyness you feel you have to pray
Looking for a sign that the universal mind
Has written you into the passion play

Skating away
Skating away
Skating away
On the thin ice of a new day

And as you cross the circle line
Well the ice wall creaks behind
You´re a rabbit on the run
And silver splinters flyIn the corner of your eye
Shining in the setting sun

Well do you ever get the feeling
That the story´s too damn real and in the present tense
Or that ev´rybody´s on the stage
And it seems like you´re the only person sitting in the audience

Skating away
Skating away
Skating away
On the thin ice of a new day

Skating away
Skating away
Skating away

Seriously, though, what comes to mind are two options.

1. Working on one post at a time, cut it at a spot above the rot (pergola should stay up on three legs while you are working; if not, brace with 2x4). Dig out the rotted post and make a post hole. Then make a vertical cut up the center of the post about a foot or 18" up into the good wood, and then out. Cut an adequate length of 6x6 to sister onto the post, with the bottom of it extending into the dug post hole. Fill hole with gravel footing, then cement.
you want me to cut a one foot long slot out of the middle of existing 6x6 while it is hanging in space??

and it is sitting on concrete piers. the bottom of the original posts rotted out 25 years ago so they cut them at ground level and buried piers underneath. it stay in place using some guy wires from the house

I guess I could do that with plain or adobe looking bricks and cement. I'll have to consult mrs semlin. that is a good idea.

it is 50 years old plus. it may be original. there is the remain of similar stuff around the corner that is integrated into the walls.

Oh, I know those all from pedal biking. My fear is not others, it is me. I ran into the same problem on a skateboard--I just kept pushing the envelope, until the seams split.
