For all the pissing and moaning about gas prices, nobody is really in a huge hurry to change their habits. (Except for those of us who will soon be commuting to work on 50-60 MPG motorcycles, that is ) We still don't see a lot more carpooling. ( I was offered to take part in the Beloit-Madison state employee's carpool today. Once I make sure the hours will work for me, I'll prolly do it, and only use the BMW to commute to the Meeting point at the Wal-Mart parking lot) We still don't see people beating down the doors of the VW Dealers demanding TDIs; the Honda dealers inquiring about their 65 MPG diesel accord; not even the Toyota dealer for the sub-par when compared to it's competition, yet brilliantly marketed and hyped up Prius.

Anyone getting the impression that the oilco's are simply trying to find exactly how inelastic the price of fuel really is?

Personally, it'd not surprise me if we did temporarily repeal the gas tax, that the price of gas wouldn't go down that much. Pure profit for the oilcos since they're probably getting closer to finding the point at which the camel's back gets broken and demand actually begins to shift downward.

In the meantime, you think the highways and bridges are in rough shape now? Just wait till after that experiment in futility is complete. Oh yeah, not to mention all the unemployment claims... In WI, there are legions of people and companies who wait all winter for the summer road construction season to begin so they can do more than subsist by plowing driveways and stuff...

I think the better thing would be a targeted tax cut -- on diesel fuel, since cheap transportation of goods is what drives the economy, and most of that transportation is diesel powered.
50-60mpg is gas guzzling. Mine gets 85mpg.

No, I can't bring myself to kill steelhead. The steelhead here are all wild fish (not native, but wild, the state stopped stocking them at least 30 years ago), and their environment is really tough on them, they are always on the edge of disaster.

If I catch a coho or a king salmon it comes home to eat. These are all hatchery fish, very little natural reproduction.

Suckers are nasty things. They go back in the river.

Decent day. I am envious, haven't hooked a steelie.
Every sucker I caught today I thought was a snag on the bottom. I though "oh, a snag, feels like a big stick", and then it would start to move! Half of them were foul hooked. I hooked one right between the eyes! I have no idea how that happens.

Steelhead may be the most exciting North American freshwater fish to catch. Atlantic salmon might be stronger and faster.

I lived a block or so from the ocean and the Mad River estuary in Humboldt. I'd fish after school.

I bought one of these the last time they were on SAC. I'm pretty happy with it.

Do you fish the Sacramento River much? Apparently there are some huge bass in there...

Noice. He looks a little tired.

fuck, I bombed my math test Tripped up by one problem. FUCK. Each problem was worth around 28points, so that one HURT. The good news is I did well on the other problems. I can score a 40% and walk out with a C. A 60% and I get by with a B. I am pretty sure I scored better than a 60%.

I did REALLY well on my Theatre test.

I also did really well on my Literature test. AND, that one, the prof pulled me aside and told me it was a pleasure to have me in class... NOT BAD!

One more test, psychology tomorrow at 1pm.

geez, I wonder why

Salmon are actually quite amazing from a physiological perspective: they can live in freshwater as well as saltwater - they are able to osmoregulate.....

most fish are restricted to either habitat

[friend of mine when I was a student studied osmoregulation in Salmon funded by the Swedish government - you know what the objective of the Swedes was in this whole study: ultimate goal was to prevent the fish from swimming into Rusaian territorial waters in the Baltic Sea they couldn't have cared less about the real science ]
