this may be an option if time drags out.......

haven't really looked into it yet

so it is best to address the increasing cost input for fud at the source. and also to remove the subsidies that are encouraging ethanol production.

i am rarely in favour of tax grabs, but i also have to admit that the rising price of oil is creating a situation that may also require some heretic discussion of temporary further state intervention by way of a windfall tax on oilcos. dependency on oil is so great that it can be akin to a monopoly/combine situation where the unregulated free market simply cannot produce an alternative to offset the advantage of producers. exxon may only be skimming a percent or two of profit for their efforts, but that might still be enough to be harming the economy.
Well, that, and also the fact that gas consumption has continued to go up as the prices have continued to rise... Yeah. For all the pissing and moaning about gas prices, nobody is really in a huge hurry to change their habits. (Except for those of us who will soon be commuting to work on 50-60 MPG motorcycles, that is ) We still don't see a lot more carpooling. ( I was offered to take part in the Beloit-Madison state employee's carpool today. Once I make sure the hours will work for me, I'll prolly do it, and only use the BMW to commute to the Meeting point at the Wal-Mart parking lot) We still don't see people beating down the doors of the VW Dealers demanding TDIs; the Honda dealers inquiring about their 65 MPG diesel accord; not even the Toyota dealer for the sub-par when compared to it's competition, yet brilliantly marketed and hyped up Prius.

Anyone getting the impression that the oilco's are simply trying to find exactly how inelastic the price of fuel really is?

Personally, it'd not surprise me if we did temporarily repeal the gas tax, that the price of gas wouldn't go down that much. Pure profit for the oilcos since they're probably getting closer to finding the point at which the camel's back gets broken and demand actually begins to shift downward.

In the meantime, you think the highways and bridges are in rough shape now? Just wait till after that experiment in futility is complete. Oh yeah, not to mention all the unemployment claims... IN WI, there are legions of people and companies who wait all winter for the summer road construction season to begin so they can do more than subsist by plowing driveways and stuff...

I think the better thing would be a targeted tax cut -- on diesel fuel, since cheap transportation of goods is what drives the economy, and most of that transportation is diesel powered.

the only thing inane about this topic is how long you guys can beat on it

it's only a matter of "debt" or "more debt" at this point anyway the gubment is long past any point of revenue in the true sense of the word

So, I have a road bike with a frame a good bit smaller than what someone who's 6'4 would normally ride. How much can I compensate with seat height and bars/stems...I wonder...

there is no magic number at which the economy will crash - look at Europe:

three times the gas price (since decades, in fact) and they are still going stronger, even after the finance crisis

I'm still kind of shocked at my poor estimating of tread depth.

Oh well. At least you got a tire with better snow/rain traction out of the deal. And it got my obsessing about the Revo's out of my head.

I recently learned that 30% of the 7-9 year olds are medicated for presumed attention problems at school

this was in Little Rock, AR, and you may argue they need attention real bad

but the magnitude is astonishing
