Yes and many of our beloved chemical and paper companies have ruined several wild and natural rivers and many square miles of seagrass on the flats out in front of them.

Keep in mind it's been 30 years since I've done the whole road.
Back then it was mostly high clearance 2WD with a few semi rough spots. We usually did it as an all day trip with a late lunch/early dinner in Ash Meadows or Alamo.
There is a lot of stuff to see. If you go wave to my Dad when you go by Fossil Ridge, we scattered his ashes up there.

Does anyone know if a 60 and 62 tank are interchangeable? I am getting taking my long range tank out for now and was wondering.
We now join the inanity already in progress....

Well, like we used to say when I worked in the paper business, "you could always try wiping your ass with a spotted owl."

There was a really long TECH THREAD in the 60 section about this and using a tank from a chevy or ford for a replacement... jim (carb rebuild guy) was doing the research and mods to see what would be best... I lost track because it went on forever and don't know if he ever finished the project... it was to put a junkyard or easily obtainable larger tank (~40 gal) in the back instead of the stock tank.

I shall.
I'll take some photos if I can drag out the wife this weekend. There appears to be a couple turns in the road...going North or South around a big lakebed...
Sounds like an adventure.
