Also the pilot jet plug on the carb is drilled out, which means someone has tuned it, and appropriately. It runs like a fucking top. These things are notorious for hard starting in the cold. It started RIGHT up tonight at 35°F. First gear is fucking super low - this is a fast bike off the line, easily pops a wheelie. Not that I would ride it illegally in the street or anything.
But it's plenty fast for me.
|
If the handlebars have a welded crossbar it is probably steel. Aftermarket alloy bars usually have bolted clamps on the crossbar or are one piece taper bars with no crossbar. It is quite common for people to whack a fancy crossbar pad on std bars to sell a bike. Try sticking a magnet to them.
Be careful doing first gear wheelies. They loop out real quick if you're not right on the ball. Second gear is a safer bet if you really want to loft the front. Remember to keep the rear brake covered just in case.

I will be headed to NM today. My grandmother is turning 80, so we have a big party planned.
In theory I will be toting back some Pecos Valley legume contraband.

craigslist seems to be the least useful around here. The midwest hasn't quite caught on to it yet...

This was just a little bump to see if it could do it. I lifted the front wheel maybe 6 inches for a second or two and then tapped the rear brake to drop it. Just good to know it can do it so I can lift the wheel over logs and stuff on the trail. I'm not a wheelie guy.

Oh and I found the handlebar on the flyracing.com website. It's their cheapest steel bar, $17.95. The factory bar was probably stronger. I need something better for sure.
By alloy do you mean aluminum or cromoly?

That's interesting, but I can see it--orderly, obsessive, VERY routinized behavior (which animals respect), and perhaps more comfortable around animals than fellow humans. Plays right into the strengths of animal handlers/trainers.

Yeah, I just didn't go the extra step and choose a live title. The "name" property had turned into a pull down menu but it didn't look all that different so I didn't notice the first time. All set now, but it puts a shitload of text into my toolbar, which is already crowded, so I turned it off,
I like the SAC method better - it uses the status bar at the bottom of the screen....

Oh, crap, Eastern Long Island in the 1970s? Why didn't you say so--now I'm surprised they didn't let you have sex in the living room. "Bogo, could you finish up? We're about to serve dinner. . . . It's your favorite! Wheat grass and tofu!"
Wait, you didn't have sex in the living room, did you?
