Even though I had often heard about Roatan, I had not known that it has the second largest coral reef in the entire world . . .

Tuesday was a two-tank dive trip in Cozumel, which is known for it's stunningly beautiful Palancar Reef. This reef is one of the more dramatic "wall drift dives" in the world. The wall starts at about 45-50 feet and then plunges straight down to about 2,000 feet!!! Diving it at a comfortable depth of about 90 feet, we felt like astronauts being swept along to watch the vertical show splayed out before our very eyes . . .
Really, there's nothing like it.

Drift diving is special in that you don't really swim at all, you merely float along and let the reef visit you. Peak buoyancy skills are key to this task.

We spent two christmas's ago in Akumal...just south of Cozumel. We never made it out there...I wish we would have. Sounds spectacular.

When you guys do learn, there will have to be a TUT dive trip. And a cruise is a fabulous, budget-minded way to get it done too. I'd happily get involved in this. The ship we're on has a fully-staffed , fully-equipped dive shop that does teaching and training right here on board. You can do some of your book work at home and then get your confined-water dives knocked out on board, get signed off and then do open-water certification dives at ports of call. If, however, you come aboard already certified, you can really enjoy the ports of call and blow bubbles in some really fine locales.

You can do some of your book work at home and then get your confined-water dives knocked out on board, get signed off and then do open-water certification dives at ports of call. If, however, you come aboard already certified, you can really enjoy the ports of call and blow bubbles in some really fine locales.
