A lot of Hilux's and Surf's use those motors too.

Let me clarify that. If they are set up correctly you won't have to worry.
Choose the bars so you have a bend that allows you to stand on the pegs comfortably without having to crouch too much. IIRC YZ bends are the tallest, you might get away without risers if you chose the right bend.
Sit on the bike in the "attack" position. Head over the triple tree, elbows up (study how MX riders position themselves). Extend you index and middle fingers out onto the brake and clutch levers. Your fingers should be in a straight line from elbow to fingertip. If they aren't rotate the levers so they are inline. Move the bark busters around so they are inline with the levers to protect them. Make sure the levers don't rub on the inside of the barkies as you will cause mechanical dramas later on. If needed move the levers inboard a touch so they don't rub. This also is a benefit by allowing your two fingers to have more leverage on the levers making them lighter to use.
|
barkbusters were not on the list of stuff I got today, but dully noted as something to get once the season progresses...
hopefully my shit will make it here in record time, I had a discount coupon from joining ThumperTalk which offset the difference in shipping between USPS, (5 weeks last time I bought cruiser parts, and not trackable), to fed ex ground, (trackable and insured)

I kind of wondered that too, but I guess if it's a 78....
must be for reluctant troops

Probably never happens, just me being paranoid...
There is a guy on XT225.com that installed a TTR225 rear mudguard with a WR250 taillight - it 's a much better design and I'll probably do the same.
I might get smaller/tougher turn indicators as well.
I also need a tail rack. There are about half a dozen out there available for this bike, which is one of the reasons I chose this model. Yamaha hasn't changed anything but the graphics for ten years, so there are a lot of aftermarket parts available.
I just insured it this morning and the shop is going to register it today. I'll have it tomorrow or Friday.
|
I got carried away waffling on about bars and forgot to reply to the rest of your post. The TTR250/ WR250 combo rear end sounds like a good plan. My mate with the DRZ400E had a Acerbis rear guard extender which was good. Had the indicators built in with the Number Plate and light and tail/stoplight. Whole thing was really strong, light and narrow.
A rear rack is good for a commuter, real handy but just be careful of them in the bush . If you get a real narrow, low profile one you should be right.

btw, the thumpertalk store is a bit of a pita to use, I think it is just because it is end of 2007, not quite beginning of 08, so half their stuff is discontinued... but because it is forum based, I figured it would be the safest bet...

BTW: look at the spring/shackle bushings as well - good ones (as opposed to OEM disintegrated as found on my truck ) are a substantial upgrade in ride quality

fckna, claudia has a point, (as usual) replacing the bushings made my truck feel a lot more like a farm truck, which was a huge improvement over the farm tractor feel it had before...

barkbusters-trailbike=ARB bullbar-LandCruiser
Must have for the bush. Handy in the city too. Try to get the ones with weather protection too. They keep more than the rain and cold off, they also lessen the branches whipping your hands in the tight stuff. They also give you more confidence in the trees because you aren't worried about hitting your hands.

Sometimes you have to do that when there isn't much room for the soldering iron.

I haven't used them before but they are supposed to be good.
