I would have sunk a wood post in concrete and hung the gate from that. I HATE attaching stuff to concrete block, always a PITA and it usually fails eventually.

meh just use a box of nail and duct tape and call it good.
If it looks like shit use molding or drywall compound/caulk.
That is my game plan anyway.

Bummer.
I was walking out of PetSmart and thought, "gee my tires look small." I have 31s.
But I know what'll happen.
I'll get 33s.
Then get a lift.
Then the 33s will look small.
And I'll need 35s and new rims.

Get a mild lift like OEM medium and 33x10.5x15 tires. It looks right and it is. I've seen literally dozens of FJ62s set up this way and driven half a dozen. It works well.

I used wedge anchors. I checked the block as well as I could, and it appears to be at least 'fairly' well filled with concrete. That's why I opted for 3 hinges...allows for nine 3/8" wedge anchors. If all of those pull out within the next 10 years I'd be amazed.

The problem is, I've had to fix many more than I've built. You just need to know your material's limitations. I once was visiting a guy who owned a Belgian draft horse, and who had just had a new fence built to keep the horse in place. The guy who built the fence had fastened the rails to the outside of the posts instead of the inside, probably because he thought it looked better. I told the horseowner that it was a bad idea, because a big horse like that would have no problem eventually pushing the rails hard enough to yank the fasteners out (two lag bolts on each end). He got this look in his eye and said "Ahhh, it probably will hold."
And, within a few months, the horseowner switched all the rails to the inside. He got tired of chasing after his horse in the meadow.

I've always thought the optimum tire size for a 62 was 44" swampers.
That does tend to create some other issues however.

Have trouble fitting into designated space; too much rubbing at speed can result in sudden blowout!

You sound like someone who has also had to adapt to having an oversized...set of tires.

well, when things get really loose, wet and sloppy, having an oversized set of tires with a good lift can really save the day. Other times, it only serves to intimidate some drivers...

I know you Yankees and pioneers build things differently than we do in the south... so here is a pic of a door from instructions on how to build... I agree with Ian, Yoop and jman re: the compression issue but here they use the brace differently as if it was a turnbuckle and it is used to 'pull up' the outside edge of the door from the hinge.
from: How-to Build a Barn, Shed or Outbuilding Door
How-To Build a Ledge Door For a Shed, Barn, Workshop
I usually do things 'different'. That is the way my grand daddy and mentor taught me how to do it. The braces were always supposed to be on both sides of the door and the fasteners went through both braces and the door between them. Lots of old barns around here had the doors made that way and some are still functional after over 100 years of continuous use.
