I definitely would go for the 5-speed if I were doing it again.

Yes, fairly often. I have seen jerseys, shorts, pant, shoes, gloves and helmets. Maybe pedals or something like that once too...

Idle seemed a little flaky sometimes. There was apparently an issue with the PCV system that took some time to wr0k out... I don't recall the precise problem, but a few people on the Mazda3 board were disappointed at Mazda's lackluster response to it.
May be fixed now, I dunno.
Mine was the pearl white. We waited about 3 weeks to get that color -- no other would suffice. They had to locate the car and make arrangements to dealer trade it with some place in Southern Illinois. At the time, dealer trading them was difficult, since they were flying off the lot at the time. There was a shortage, and when the dealer got one, they had a tendency to hold onto it for dear life.
The Pearl white was the only color that cost extra at the time, BTW.

We test drove one of those. It was pretty nice. But when I test drove the manual, I knew three things:
1) I liked the car, a lot.
2) It had to be a manual gearbox
3) It had to be Pearl White.
Even Katie agreed that the Manual was a far superior driving experience, and she's not as big a fan of manuals. (I had to teach her to drive a stick shift when we bought the Jetta TDI)
Maybe have Mrs. Cube give the manual a shot... the difference it makes in the fun-to-drive category is amazing.

Ha...yeah probably too much. That is a BIG pack for extended trips. The one we have for ours is not quite that big, and its still got plenty of volume for anything we'd put in there. What about the Moon-Dawg?

Most American drip machines make crappy coffee because they don't get the water hot enough...ideal water temp is 195 to 205 ° F in the grounds basket.

when we traded the Mazda on the 4Runner about 7 months later, we traded it to the Toyota dealer for only $700 less than we paid for it.
At the time, there were no rebates or incentives on the 3 hatchback, since, like I said, they were flying off the lots as fast as the manufacturer could deliver them. But the dealer in Janesville (Everhart-O'Leary Mazda-Volkswagen, whom I would wholeheartedly endorse to any friends in the area looking for a car) gave us a $750 discount for being a repeat customer since we bought the Jetta there, too.
Like I said, I miss that car sometimes. We decided to go with the 4Runner because we just found that -- no matter how hard we tried -- we just couldn't really get by with two small cars. We like to camp and travel, and I really wanted to get an ATV and thus needed a tow rig... Barring those concerns, I'm sure I'd still own it and be quite content.

I do have a grinder but I'm usually too lazy to grind daily so when I buy my beans from Costco or Trader Joes I grind them at the store. When I buy good beans like Peet's I'll grind them right before brewing.

The idea is to retire the Cruiser from dd use for Mrs. Cube and get her into a car that's fun but more economical to drive. 90% of her driving is with two kids in the car running errands around town. The 3 can easily handle that duty. I'll drive the cruiser when it's raining and I can't ride my bike.

And Katie read this over my shoulder and said I should tell you that she misses the 3 so much, that she often wishes we had traded the Jetta for the 4Runner rather than the 3 -- and Katie adored her Jetta TDI.
All in all, despite the mediocre stereo system, I'd say it was one of the most satisfying cars I've owned, and either of us would buy another in a heartbeat.

Of course, now that she won't be dd'ing the cruiser, I can pickup a 4x4 Labs rear bumper kit, since having dual swingouts won't be a daily inconvenience for her

The first time I met Woody in person (long before my TUT days), I was driving the 3. He seemed to admire it a bit himself, IIRC.
