Unless you have a Dell Premier account...

You get to "downgrade" from Vista to XP Pro. Kinda like "downgrading" from an Xterra to a FJ Cruiser...

To anyone that thinks a reformat gets rid of everything on your hard drive, think again.

Last night I reformatted my media center PC. It was acting up and as you can read above, I'm a huge supporter of annual reformats to start fresh.

Well, I fawked up big time.

Towards the end of the fresh XP install, I realized I had forgotten to back up one CRUCIAL bit of files. My wife's and my honeymoon pictures from Spain.

So I naturally kinda freaked out. But, as an IT geek, I also knew that there is software out there that can get the stuff back since nothing is ever completely gone unless you use other programs to thoroughly delete stuff. I downloaded BinaryBiz's VirtualLab Client and hooked my hard drive up to my laptop as a slave. Clicked the button to look for deleted pictures and let it do its thang.

I was fricken amazed! It found EVERYTHING! Every single one of ya'll's avatars that was saved in cache, every single picture I had ever looked at on the web(no matter how mundane) including small "link pics", even random clip pics of videos I watched off sites like CBS and ABC, and it even found some NSFW stuff I hadn't looked at for years!

I got the honeymoon pictures too.

So if you're doing anything illegal on your computers or anything that might make trouble for you in a divorce, use a program like the one mentioned in the first post to wipe your hard drives clean. A "reformat" does NOT get rid of anything.

i have been a dell warranty tech for years

throw in your new har drive

when you turn on the machine press F2

turn on the scroll locl, cap lock, num lock

hold down the Alt key

press E, then F, then B

computer will do an Automatic IDE configuration and find the new hard drive

edit: of course you can probably just plug in the new hard drive and it will see it just fine. don't buy anything over 120g for the primary hard drive, your bios may not see it if you do

I think you've worked your way into a corner of the really, really skinny section of the bell curve. The section where out of a million people in the curve, you're the only one within a mile of where you are.

I'm not sure what your asking. I'm a network admin, we have 2003 Exchange server.

I'm assuming you are trying to run exchange without that server being a Domain Controller?

Can you access another DC in your network? Exchange should get it's user info from there.

your right on the money.
yesterday at about 5:05 pm i figured out how to copy the little "test organizational unit" i created with my four john and jane does over and make them exchange users.

i took one class for server 2003 back in 2003 and have never touched it sense, now i am trying to set up exchange to work. (never have taken an exchange class) i'm going to be taking some classes before long, but i'd like to be ahead of the curve when i get there.

thanks for the help, any advice you want to throw this way would be greatly appreciated.

alrighty......

local user: johndoe@pawneenation.local

can send mail out to my hotmail account but not my local account.

and he is not receiving email

i went in and added what should be his real address to his John Doe properties page

johndoe@pawneenation.org

then added the same address to the e-mail addresses tab under the same properties

of course this has not seemed to help

Calphi, I honestly couldn't tell ya'. I'm still using Tiger and haven't had the need to install a permanent ext. hdd to my Macbook.
But I'm applying for a job at the newly-opened Apple store in town so I might be able to help you then.

tractor you are now my new best friend -

i started my new job with the pawnee nation three weeks ago, two days ago the council voted to place the tax comission back under the admin authority of the main office.

the tax comission employees were unhappy about that and walk off their jobs yesterday morning, one of them deleted a bunch of important info off her computer.

i had a big when i got to tell the police chief, council members, finiancial director, and of course my boss - that it was no problem.

over 29000 files recovered - over 1000 that were important financial records, tag info, memos, etc.

edit:

LoveTractor Thread .................................... $0.00

Downloading VirtualLab Client ....................... $0.00
