| FWIW I hated iTunes at first, but I have since come to really like it. In particular, I like how you can take blocks of files and change them all to the same artist, album genre, whatever.
Now I keep all my music on AAC filed according to iTunes but I keep a backup of the original files (with their original tags) on MP3 in case I ever need to replace the iTunes folder. Plus, like you, I burned tons of rare vinyl onto MP3. As I've sold most of the vinyl singe then, I don't want to chance losing the files. I keep the original MP3s backed up, plus a ful back-up of my iTunes folder on DVD-Rs.
10,850 songs, 43.59 gigs, filed exactly the way I want. Give it a chance, it might grow on you.
