Bummer, this a is one problem with America as it sits now, no one is responsible for their own actions, the rest of us suffer for it

If you carry a load in a passenger compartment that is not safe that is your fault but the courts do not see it that way

well, the normal solution is to have the buyer sign a liability waiver of some sort

We talked about the waivar idea but consider this -

we would need to make up printed labels stating not to use as a restraint or something like that.

print up some pages of disclaimers ect...
and even then there is still risk.

I was thinking about making it as a kit or something.

later - Riley

I'll sign a waiver no problem. I agree with others that say you have to be responsible for your own actions. I think its my responsability to have all my gear secured and tied down.

Aren't the liablity laws different for custom manufacturing compared to retail products? I can see there being an issue if he were to be making these items under a brand name and selling them for profit rather than for material costs and labor.

I agree with Riley's assesment that substaintial liability exposure will be risked if the net, which is intended to restrain cargo, fails to restrain cargo in event of collision or rollover. Waivers are not a shield from lawsuit, and not losing a judgement does not mean not having to spend a boat load on legal fees.

If anybody wants a cargo net bad enough, it shouldn't be too much trouble to find a local canvas worker who will be glad to make one. Look in the phone book under awnings, boat covers, or canvas. They all have the equipment necessary to sew nylon webbing.

thanks Rich for confirming our view. very true about easy to sew up this stuff. When I return from vacation, I can measure up the dimensions and such, that's most of the work just to figure out the right size and straps to secure.

This guy's margins are thin, thin, thin and can't afford any hassles. I'm in the middle just trying to be a nice guy and have some fun making cruiser stuff. Not worth it.

If this doesn't work out, maybe with enough interest www.raingler.com would make a net for the 80 series, it looks like some VERY nice cargo netting!
Example of 4runner barrier net
Example of Heep Cherokee, with barrier and floor cargo net

unfortunately, although the risk of a lawsuit is pretty low, it only takes one situation where a kid gets clobbered in the head and needs lifelong care and a jury might develop 20/20 hindsight. A waiver does not apply to minors or to passengers who did not sign it. A warning label may not be enough either.

if anyone has a limited liability company they aren't using, it could buy the design, hire Riley's friend and become the vendor.

Thanks for the heads up Ben, that design should be easily adaptable to the LC 80s. If this does not work out, let’s get everyone together and give them a call. I am sure if we had enough orders they would do it.

I agree with LandCruiserPhil. I would like one of your friend's DOGNETS. I need one of the new DOGNETS to dissuade my dog from jumping onto the middle seat, as opposed to affirmatively stop the dog, since there's no way to know if the net will actually stop a flying object. Either way, please put me down for a DOGNET. I am very interested, and thought about how great a DOGNET would be when my muddy lab was playing patty cake on my seats this weekend.

Cheers,
Jay

I recieved this message from Raingler, anyone interested? I definately would want one.

"Hello, I will be happy to develop these for your vehicle, I typically
need
at least 5 buyers to start a new project to recoup the engineering time
etc.
Any chance one of these participants would be in the Denver area and
willing
to bring the vehicle by a few times for measuring and prototype
fitment? I
would need a vehicle with fairly good interior condition for
photography
purposes (ie. Needs to be empty to measure etc.) Please let me know,
there
may even be a chance an existing unit will fit the Landcruiser right
now.
Eddie Cline"

I would also be interested in one for a 100 series unless the 80 series net fit also.

Thanks for contacting and considering us, we do have insurance for these and can ship to Canada as well. If no owner is in the local area we can build these off measurements as it looks like something has/is being constructed already. Please let me know asap, we'd be happy to work on this for those interested. My direct email is: ecline@raingler.com

Is there a ball-park for the price yet? Is it safe to assume that if there's enough interest there might be a volume discount? Just curious.

I didn't check on the price, but judging from the web site, I would estimate around 100-120 for the cargo net. We could probably work a deal if we could get a firm number of orders including money.

We still need someone to take there 80 over for measurements.

I am defiantly in and need some type of restraint. Will someone go down there so they can get some measurements?

Bring this thread back to life

Whatever happened to this? I am interested in on of these. Someone in CO got an 80 they can take to the guy for measurements. I'll sign a release of liability to get one. Anything is better than the "fits one SUV fits all" POS I am using now.

Someone came down, the net is now available. Sorry in advance to resurrect an old post, this just fell off the radar until recently as a result of this particular thread.
