I struggled with this for a long time and eventually got rid of all of my Minimags and replaced them with much better lights. My Fenix L1P, now discontinued and obsolete, has given me way, way more utility and joy then any Maglite product ever did. __________________ If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate. The TLE-5EX MiniStar2 EXTREME 5 Watt LED & tailcap switch are just under 32.00 delivered. What can I get that is that size and will have equal or better performance around that price?

Fenix L2-S http://www.fenix-store.com/index.php?cPath=22_69_71 (excellent quality, not the brightest of this group but has a two stage switch - the low setting can be very useful) The guy that runs Fenix-store.com is super nice and a flashlight geek himself. He started selling Fenix lights to other flashlight geeks as a favor when they were hard to get and he has now become the premier vendor in the U.S. for these lights. Ultrafire C5 https://www.kaidomain.com/WEBUI/Prod...px?TranID=1479 (brighter at the same battery life, but quality is patchy) Ugsby P12 http://www.qualitychinagoods.com/cre...23a-p-670.html (cheap but might break, you never know. A cheaper Chinese knockoff of the Fenix (also Chinese) lights) Personally I would go for one of the Fenix Cree lights, with CE in the name. And I like the single AA lights better. MUCH more compact, but not too small to hold. I like the L1D CE myself, well worth $56: https://www.fenix-store.com/product_...a39d80117d5133 __________________ If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate. Other 1AA lights, if you choose to go that way (it really is much more convenient than 2AA size lights, much easier to drop in a pocket, hold in your teeth, whatever...)
Ultrafire C3 http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.1993 Dex X.V http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.2944 JetBeam C-LE http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.2095 I'd buy the Fenix L1D CE above any of those though, even though it costs more. __________________ If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate. Just guessing:
Fenix L1D-CE, Magcrap 2AA, Magcrap C or D cell I just ordered myself a Fenix P2D-CE and an L1D body to go with it from fenix-store.com The L1D and P2D use the same head; I can switch bodies and switch back and forth from CR123 to AA batteries at will. ![]() The one I got is a special edition with a Q2 bin Cree emitter (16% more output at the same current draw) and a "Medium Orange Peel" textured reflector for a slightly smoother beam pattern. It should arrive tomorrow I hope... __________________ If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate. '99 UZJ100 "The Iron Hippo" / '82 FJ40 "Mustard" / '73 FJ40 |

![]() If you want to use an AA battery instead of 123, you can get an L1D body for $17. Just unscrew the head and tailcap from the P2D body and screw it onto the L1D body. The electronics in the head automatically adjust for the different battery voltage. __________________ If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate. Also never buy CR123 batteries in the store. They are WAY too expensive. Get them mailorder.
I buy most of my batteries from Wayne. He is a total battery geek and works hard to provide the best batteries on the market. His CR123's are $1 each: http://www.amondotech.com/index.asp?...S&Category=241 These are good too: http://www.batterystation.com/cr123a.htm __________________ If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate. FYI
there is a new Surefire G2L 80lum, 8 hour run time, 123 batteries, around $50, looks just like the G2, these are out now and talking to the Streamlight rep today, in Feb they will have a new propitary(there own) product out that will blow the doors off any current LED out there, says its not a LED.......he said thats all he can say, price will be low. I played with the HID 1mill CP Litebox today........DAMN thats one powerfull unit, $700 retail. I told the rep a Litebox using LED would be a great product........he just grinned ![]() Did pick up one of the Rayovac 3watt AA LEDS, pretty decent light for $24 |
