Met D'Animal yesterday. He's driving his 60 from MI back to CA via WI.
Of course, it's his rig, not some truck he knows nothing about.
Still, more adventure than I feel is necessary in my old age.

quick update..
i made it to vegas on schedule! no majors problems but the carb doesn't seem to work so long story short.... vapor lock SUCKS. no problem if i keep a good pace but i lose power and it wants to stall once I slow down in the 100F+ heat...oh well, once i get the carb cooled down it runs fine and it always starts...
Anyway, hoping to make it to Colorado springs tomorrow!

There are only 1-2 wires on that thing - check the wire leading to the sensor on the manifold - that thing usually burns out. A quick road fix could set you up for smoother sailing.
(I had this problem for a long time and it's the suck!)

The sensor is a quick fix if you have:[LIST]
Extreme patience
A new sensor
wiring tools
Two elbows on one arm (An extra one between your exsisting elbow and wrist would be ideal)
A 7mm wrench with you.
There is one wire going to the sensor and it plugs into the big green plug that goes into the wiring loom.
Enjoy it without the carb fan and fix it when you get home.

I am not sure about on a 60 but on a 40 there is a fuse up under the dash that can cause the carb fan to go out if it blows. If I remember correctly it is above the gas pedal and is wrapped in tape so it may not be too easy to find... Good luck and your trip sounds like it should be a great time!

like others said, the sensor is underneath the manifold, very typical for it to break from the heat. Stop and get a piece of wire to splice in place and crimp a small terminal on and she should be good to go.

I just yesterday completed a 2500 mile trip in 4 days from los angeles to charlotte NC.... no ac, my rock hard 36 inch military tires and no re-gear as of yet..... it was "fun" little over 600 miles a day... and I get to do it again with my wife and cat after the wedding in a month... but at least the matrix has ac

If you take I-70 through Kansas, and have a second to stop in Abilene, go to the President Eisenhower Museum. He was a POS president, but his museum is packed full of some the coolest crap you will ever see.
