| Im assuming the saved the people on a boat. It is strange that they wouldn't run a winch cable, but I'm guessing if tried to cross that fast of a flowing river...they didn't bring any trucks with a winch WITH them.

| At what point would it have been safe to run a winch cable to them, once they realized they were in trouble?

| That's why you should always mount your winch with explosive bolts. I get 'em at Ace Hardware

| Old clip. About three years ago IIRC. Yep, dumb and ignorant decisions made that day. And the next few days.
We've sunk rigs in that river ourselves. Not many... 'cause unlike those guys, we know what we're doing and we know when to back off, find another crossing or whatever if the river is simply uncrossable. When we have swamped a rig... we have always recovered them.
I had one guy call me up to recover his rig. I told him $500 to get a cable on it and get it to shore. He turned me down. I checked it out the next day. I was darn glad he turned me down. I had misjudged the river levels. It was a full size blazer, completely under the surface with a three foot standing wave on top of it. LOTS of current. No way would I have gone in after it for $500.
Later in the year the river changed course a little and someone got a cable on it. It wound up stripped (not really anything worth taking, but...) and the hulk wound up buried in the gravel. A few years later we cut it up and hauled it out when it resurfaced after breakup.
The Knik River claims several rigs every year. On the average it keeps at least one every year. There's a couple out there in the gravel barrens that surface every once in a while as the river changes course and uncovers then reburies them.
Mark...

| At that point what else would you do? I guess if you had a harpoon gun with a safety line attached maybe you could help. Might as well keep filming for life insurance records.

| That's why I always bring a paddle! Ha. You have to admit, it might not go thru the mud very well, but it floats with the best of them.
