| Graduating but not too excited So, yeah I'm finally graduating with a bachelor's in biology... It's taken me YEARS to finish after starting and stopping in 1994. I'm finally out of the New Mexico Army National Guard after a six year enlistment... I've been looking forward to this for so long it seems. I'm about to take my last final exam here in 3 hours, a party is planned for tomorrow night, there is a keg of Fat Tire Ale on researve but I'm just not feeling it. Feel like I'd rather take a road trip and escape this town for a while to be alone... What's wrong with me! Where is the music and the feeling of accomplishment?
Has anyone ever been here?

Has anyone ever been here? | It is a huge accomplishment, and it will pay dividends. Better to go the party than to miss it and regret it.

| yeah, I was thinking it was the job thing too. I don't have anything lined up yet. I had kinda planned ahead... cought up on my mortgage 3 months ahead, cleared my credit card debt and saved a little $. I just don't want to come around Sept Oct and be SOL... Being a college student is great, Man, it really is the life, even as a 31 year old. I have no kids, not merried... just an affordable mortgage (gotta pay to live somewhere, eh?) I was thinking grad school, but I have a girlfriend that is urging me to grow up and move away with her to where ever she gets accepted to grad school. I already feel new chains wanting to hold me down...

| Sometimes "change" can screw with your head. Or it could be a simple case of burnout, sounds like you have been working your arse off.
Try a trip to the Gila wilderness for a few days (or weeks). I know it helps me "clear the funk".

Treat yourself. | I think your right about the party... my foresight about stuff like that is kinda crappy. I've already invited people. I just got to thinking now how cool it would have been, right after my last final today, to jump in the 60 with my mountain/road bikes, flyfishing gear and heading north to the San Juan River for some primo fishing and cycling... living out of the truck for 2+ weeks. Now that would be some money and time well spent

Congrats man. As said above it is a huge accomplishment. I was the same when I finally finished after 6 years of part-time. But I guarentee, it is something you will have until your death, whether you use it or not.
Have a beer, pat youself on the back for a job well done, and get on to your next challenge.
Good luck on your final final. |

| Go to the party. I skipped B-school graduation and told my family not to plan any celebrations. I kind of regret it.

I graduated in the winter and did not make a fuss at all.
Celebrate your accomplishment how you want.
Be sure the spend time with people you will not see later.

| I would go to the party. I graduated years ago now, and I have the urge to do what you want to do every single day. Celebrate what you've accomplished, and then proceed to run like a motherfawker. Going to work everyday will really make you want to escape.

| BTDT, Man. When I finally graduated, I figured I'd be ecstatic/pumped/stoked, etc. Instead, I felt absolutely nothing. I had one of the last finals given for the term, so when I finally completed that last test, It looked like I was one of the few students left on campus. Dead quiet, no one around, my truck was the only rig left in the parking lot behind the campus library. A tumbleweed actually blew through the lot in front of me as I was walking away. It was so cliche'd, I had to laugh. To this day I feel like I was robbed!

Sounds like me in 1999, w/out the mortgage... I moved every 6 months for 3.5 years... Summer field work in Idaho and N.E. Nevada... Winter field work on Lake Mead... Depending on your desired focus in Biology, go with the girlfriend and see if there are any interesting bio-field tech jobs... Not a heavy career choice, but they give ya some exposure to different jobs, tend to be temporary and seasonal but can pay decent (sometimes even per-dium) be fun and let you see some cool country ..
good luck, cheers!

| Big changes in your status in life always leave you feeling a bit lonely. At least that's how it's been for me every time. Pretty soon it settles in. If you skip the party you'll probably feel worse, not better.
A lot of the medical equipment reps I work with have backgrounds like yours. They make pretty good money too. Something to think about. And the guys with a military background are always pretty well received by surgeons in particular.

| I'm a bad person... First of all I can't get excited about graduating... I took my last final exam just minutes ago. Just before the start of the exam the prof handed back all the students' work from the entire semester. It took him about 1/2 hour to do. Meanwhile, the girl that sat next to me the entire semester started talking to me... we talked until the exam started 30 minutes later. I finished the exam, came home and sent her an email through a class listing saying how I wished I had started talking to her earlier... Slightly inappropriate? Just want to be friends... maybe its that lonely thing kicking in when all is said and done (as someone mentioned). I'm not regreting it yet...
