Just kicking around and thought I'd start up the current version. What's on the IPod / Zune / Laptop / CD / Technics 1200 / etc.....
I am in a reflective mood and I'm designing my backyard landscaping. I am moving all of my tractors and implements out of the yard and I am putting a Japanese tea garden in. I have skills.
I am currently listening to John Singer, Shakuhachi Master (The only Westerner to have ever reached this pinnacle)
He is also the only Master to have ever recorded full selections of traditional Shakuhachi from the Edo and Meiji periods. He holds Shoden, Chuden, Okuden, Junshihan, and Shihan licenses within the Chiku Meisha Shakuhachi Guild. The dude is a stud. I play shakuhachi, but this guy is incredible.

Here are some selections for your listening pleasure. Turn the lights down low, lay back and relax. It may take some getting used to though as it's very different from western music and traditional western scales.
Cedar and Blossom ( a traditional Honkyoku selection with modern accompaniment )

Matsu Kazi ( a selection from the Nezasa Ha Kinpu Ryu Honkyoku Zen Buddhist pieces )

Sakura ( a modern Shakuhachi interpretation paired with concert harp)

Where's Mot? He might like this stuff too...

I actually went back and found out that I posted these links about 2 years ago.
Another similar thing to listen to is Huayllipacha. I also like listening to the song Paisaje Del Dorado, which is traditional Peruvian music. It's mostly Andean flute and drums. Great stuff. Their best album is Songs Of The Earth.
Vientos De Los Andes also has a great album called Impressions. More Andean / Peruvian flute and guitar music...
