The original prado was an offshoot of the 70 series family for those who didnt want or couldnt afford the heavy duty 70.
It was called a Bundeera in oz and a Landcruiser II in other markets.
Its official designation was a RJ70 or LJ70 and later there were MWB and LWB versions. (73 and 78 series)
All of them looked like a HD 70 series but their running gear was closer to a Hilux/4Runner.
Later the Prado become to be called that all over the world although England calls them Colorado's and Austria a LC300

Now they had become a 90 series with a choice of 3-4 engines and had IFS
A 5 dr was a 95 series. The current models are 120 and 125 (3 dr and 5dr)
In short to your question regarding the ruggedness compared to a 60?
No,the 60 and other 70 series were real heavy duty and shared a lot of parts inc engines gearboxes suspension differnetial ,electrical and steering.
They had almost nothing in common with a HD 70 except the early Prados resembled the body shape and interior.
They are competent offroad and maybe more comfortable excusing their short length but are not for heavy load carrying.
Best thought of as a recreational vehicle
PS see the 70 series forum if you are thinking of buying one. Some models with the 2LT diesel engines are dying like flies with cracked cyl head$.BUYER BEWARE
