| Birfield Party - Utah Birfield Party - Utah
Hey! I'll sponsor moose ribs, dutch oven Elk roast, and beverages for a birf party in the next couple/few months at someone else's garage along the Wasatch front. Any interest?
I've got grease in my differential and I'm about , and I have no garage.

| I can't help you with a garage, but I'm getting ready to do my birf's in my drive way, and it's big enough for 2 rigs. I have all the tools. You could just "follow my lead", and we could do them both on a warm Sat., or Sun.

| Vitesse, thanks! I'm not putting this off, I just got hit with a project at work and haven't even LOOKED at mud in just over a week! I think I'm going through withdrawals. I'll order the parts from C-Dan and make sure I have them in hand before I try to set anything up with you. I'll PM you when I have them and maybe you can still help me out. Thanks!

| Word up! What is that, any ways? I don't think I knew what it meant when I used it in High school!
Just waiting for my parts quote from CDan, then delivery so I know I have everything, then I can make some arrangement.

| Well, it's done. I ended up paying to have it done because I'm taking my son camping / wheeling on the 11th of May and I have no time between now and then to get it done. My employer took over my weekends.
Local Firestone charged me just under $500 for the job. They won't make that mistake twice though! It took them 7-9 hours for the seals, birfs, replace calipers, pads, and rotors. They stuck by their original quote though and it looks like they did a good job. They contacted the local Toy dealer to make sure they had the correct fluids / grease and for technical advice. It was worth it to me. Maybe in 5 years when I roll another 60,000 miles on the LC I'll have a garage and won't feel like I'm being a nuisance to people and can do this myself. Thanks again for all your offers!

| I truly hope that they did do a good job.
The last time that I let firestone touch our 'Cruiser, they mounted the center caps under the rims and then torqued the lugs down. It was supoed to be checked on their alignment machine. They did not give me a printout from the alignment and then they told me that the alignment was correct.
The ride home did not feel right. I thought it might be due to uneven tire presures. When I got home I looked at the wheels and every one of them wobbled because of the uneven center caps under the rims. What really burned me was that I had two of my sons w/ me. They let that vehicle go out their doors w/ unsafe and improperly mounted wheels.
They overtightened the rear brakes another time and then cross-threaded a spark plug in my mini-truck.
Never again will I darken the doors of a firestone.

| I have another thread on this in the 80's section that deals more with the tech, but to keep from doubling up too much, I hear what you're saying. I have a lot of experience with these guys and they've done a better job than I can in the past. I've had the bad mechanic experiences as well, I just hope this one will be good.
I did look at things, just a visual inspection, when I got it home and it looked good, but I didn't open anything up and check fluids or torques or anything. I am a little nervous about the results.I'll check the fluids this weekend. I don't have a torque wrench so I'll have to have some trust here.
