| got a little freaked out today I got a little freaked out today and I must admit a little scared. I was driving to the back of one of my buildings when i see this bum going through my trash bin. So I pull over and tell him to get out as he was making a mess of my parking lot, so he gets out, spins around and pulls a gun from his waist band, he aims it straight dead on at my face, I can see down the barrel and I definitely see the bullet. SO I back off, hands in the air and I tell him, "just go", he backs away from me, never once dropping his aim from my head. He then takes off at a swift gait straight towards a childrens day care that is next door, I can see the kiddies playing on the swings in their yard and this psyco is heading straight for them. I get in my truck and start honking my horn and I head straight for him, he then takes off down the street in another direction. I call 911 and they quickly arrive as I made sure they understood the part about the gun and the children being out. First cop arrives and he pulls the gun out on him, so they are standing in the middle of the street, guns drawn when the other 4 cars arrive, he then gives hims self up. During the interview with the cop I find out he is a drug addict who spends the whole day sniffing paint, mentally he is totally fried. The gun turns out to be some home made zip gun, pipe with a bullet in it. You know that feeling you get when you light up a fire cracker and your just on pins and needles anticipating the "bang", well that was what I was feeling, except that was the last thing I was probably going to hear. I am a gun owner and was considering getting my concealed hand gun license, but I thought I would never need to use it or have a reason to get one, but now..... Considering how messed up our judicial system is I would not be surprised to find him once again next week going through my trash.

| Im going to get a concealed permit shortly. Just for things like that. Since he had the drop on you a gun might not have helped you. Then again I wasnt there. After watching the news about the Trolly Square shootings In Salt Lake a guys kills 5 people and shoots a whole lot more. I think if one competant person with a gub could have defended himself and maybe stopped that nut a whole lot sooner. Im glad you are ok That had to be scary as hell.

| Anyone who has every had a gun pointed at them feels your pain. Mine was the door being kicked in with 2 officers sweeping the room screaming show me your f**king hands. I am glad you are safe and I commend you for being able to keep your shit together so that you could warn the children and get them out of harms way.

| I appreciate the comments, I am definitely getting my concealed hand gun license, any one know what they teach you in that class? I am looking to take some classes which would make me more comfortable or rather more confident in my ability. Is there a class or recomendation anyone can make. Its something that I had been wanting to do for some time, only now, well, it seems to be something that i NEED to do.

| Talk to your local gun shop or sheriffs office. They can tell you the requirements in your area. They can also tell you when and where the classes are held.

| It depends on where you live. Here in OH it is a mandatory 12 hours of classroom time with 1 hour range qualification. This does not guarantee a permit where I live. Your application has to be reviewed by a panel of detectives and other officers in your area. They want to make sure that none of them has had any issues with you in the pass. I highly recommend it to anyone who is interested. Lots of people think they know a lot about gubs, how to handle them and gub safety but you will be amazed at what you can learn from someone else. A lot has to do with the instructor and his or her knowledge.

Not making fun of you at all; just honestly curious: At what point in Moxwell's story would you have drawn and fired?

He was showing off how tough he was and stuck the thing in my face. I was scared, but I was more pissed, my only thought was what a fucking pussy he was for having to show how tough he was by sticking it in my face. Then the dumb fuck put it down where I could get it. It took everything I had to not pick it up and shoot him. I got out of where I was ASAP, but I'm still pissed 20 years later (mostly at the guy that took us to the party where it happened).
In short, it really sucks, and glad you walked away from it unscathed. In this case, having a CCW wouldn't have helped, he had the jump on you and you did the best thing, which was let him retreat, which was what he wanted.

| I was in a road rage incident that involved a gun pointed at my face. At that moment, I would have rather been almost anywhere than there. It sucks, plain and simple.
I'd get a handgun permit, but I live in California, and they only hand those out to politicians and celebrities.

Curtis | Two safer options the next time anyone is in the same situation with or without a gun. The best thing to do is never walk up on someone, in the dark from behind, you can't see their hands or what they are doing or holding.
Option 1- Sit in the car or truck and observed the bum from a distance and call the cops. Report his behavior and wait for officers to arrive.
Option 2-Roll up on the guy-staying in the vehicle, keeping it as protection between you and the bum. If the guy makes a move hit the pedal and pull away to a safe distance.
Unless you walked up on the guy with a gun already drawn, you would be SOL.

I'd get a handgun permit, but I live in California, and they only hand those out to politicians and celebrities. | I heard or read somewhere that you can form your own corporation in Cally and that allows you to C&C. Is this true? Someone even said that being incorporated allowed you to get the necessary permits to carry full autos??? Might be BS.

PS, I'm National Rifle since 18 yrs old and I want my concealed too because I live in Florida, top THAT!

| wife said I was stupid to ask him to leave, its just trash she says. I was not expecting a gun, I tell her. On the carrying of a firearm, I have given it alot of thought, if I actually pull it out on some one to defend my self, most have told me only do it if you intend to kill them, because if you don't they will keep coming and most likely WILL take it away from me and they WILL kill me. SO I play it over and over in my head, what if I make a mistake and its not a gun but something else and I shoot the guy. My best option I think is to get the proper training, currently although i have owned and shot guns for several years I just don't feel confident in my abilities. Just plain honest to God fact. I am wondering whether those that have taken the course have felt an improvement in their ability or in their confidence.
