Friend with brain cancer-please pray

Hi,

A close friend of mine has a very fast growing and dangerous form of brain cancer. This has been a very hard time for him and his family, as the future for him looks very bleak. His faith in Christ is strong, and is confident God will carry them through this whatever the outcome might be.

His name is Nathan, any fellow believers care to add him to your prayer list?

Thanks (Galations 6:2)

We'll be praying for him as well.

Let us know if we can do anything more to cheer him up.

I had a good friend from high school pass from brain cancer at 28.

Yesterday I went to the wake of a college buddy who passed at 31 from an infection he got after contracting meningitis.

It really makes you reflect on what is important in life.

I'm not a religious man, but I will pray for your friend.

tell him to look at the cheerleader development thread, maybe it will side track his thoughts for a few minutes?(hope I didn't defend?) I was going for a moment on levity.

Thanks, Dave, for standing in the gap for Nathan. He's in our prayers.

Blessings,

It's the same form, (GBM?) How long did it take for it to get your Dad? Did he do radiation or chemo?

Thanks everyone for your support.

Yes, gbm = glioblastoma multiforme (aka astrocytoma grade IV). There is no cure. Lesser grades of astrocytoma and oligodendroglioma (grades II-III) almost always morph to gbm. I have nothing nice to say.

gbm

edit: There is an internet BB run by T.H.E. Brain Trust that is well worth subscribing too. Those folks have the biggest hearts on the planet. There were also a couple on Yahoo, I don't know if they still exist. One was the Temodar list, I don't remember the second. I've been out of the game for two years. http://www.braintrust.org

I also hate to give you this site, but reality is reality. Diane Phillips started this site about 3 years ago after her dad died. I was lucky to have been on the braintmr-L at the time she was. Great writer with a huge heart. Have your friend's FAMILY study it (not Nathan!). http://www.brainhospice.com/

Last, is Al's site. Study it, all of it. http://www.virtualtrials.com/

I have yet to meet or communicate with anybody in the brain tumor community that wasn't exceptionally helpful. We were all brought together for the same reason, and glad we found each other.

They had done surgery to remove the largest mass of the tumor (about the size of a lemon) from his right temporal lobe. He was actually in a rehab hospital and threw a blood clot, started to seize, and went into full respiratory and cardiac arrest. He did not tell me what type of tumor it was and he did not want me to fly out to Pittsburgh. I have been told by my Aunt that he wanted me to only remember the times we had and not to see him in the hospital. We did a lot of outdoor activities before I went into the Navy and he loved to hunt and fish and everything that goes along with it. It is cliché, but he wouldn't have wanted to waste away and his prognosis would have been to last another 6 months at best.

My wife had a tumor a few years before my Dad, and hers was benign and was on the surface of the occipital lobe, so it was easy to get to and she has had no problems since. I had thought that since my wife's had turned out OK that so would my dad's. Guess not.

Sorry to be a downer, but GBM is a shitty way to go and I hope that your friend does not suffer any more than he has to before passing into the Lord's presence.

Dave

I will definitely pray for youre friend, I am also dealing with a tumor right now, nothing as serious as GBM, but I have been blessed with a lot of good reports from the doctors lately that I attribute solely to prayer and my faith in the lord, he is for sure in my prayers.
