| For the Newb EBAY Scam check it out 1980 FJ40 PS AC on EBAY Check out this scammer. This was Chris Wade's truck in Georgia. Someone stole the photos and has it listed near me. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Toyot...rdZ1QQtcZphoto
I already reported it to EBAY fraud. The dead give away is the hope that he gets $7000 for it yet he has restored it.
I know 99% of IH8MUD knows these scams but I am hoping to save one newby from getting burned. I know it is chat but please let it go for a while to educate the scam.
Aaron

| Middleton is about 45 minutes from me. Wonder if this guy is actually in Idaho?
Notice the guy has 0 feedback and all the bids are unnamed bidders. |

| agreed I also agree the ad is well written. Also notice he listed payment as cash only. He must be a NEWB to scamming as don't they usually ask for paypal so they can disappear fast?
The guy clearly is a quick study or truly knows landcruisers.

| story my guess No I don't think he has the truck. He copied the photos and is attempting to burn someone via ebay into thinking he has the truck. Right now I bet he is emailing back and forth with clueless buyers who are trying to negotiate a buy it now price via paypal. They think they will get this amazing FJ40 for $12-15k when this truck sold for 30k on EBAY a few months back. Once the paypal amount is paid you are sunk.

In some cases, they only show the bidder IDs to the seller...to prevent scamming, or something...lol Either way, you can see the bidder's info such as how long they've had an eBay account and what their feedback rating is. I think the bidders on this FJ are legit.
Hope they remove this soon....great catch.

| friggin paypal, this was their reply after i got scammed 45 dollars canadian last year, glad it wasnt a big amount of money, avoid paypal like the plague as it seems they honor the privacy of scammers. this was thru someone calling themselves treena ferguson.

| As far as Paypal goes....if you use it....always use your credit card (not check card) as funding options. That way, if it is fraudulent, your credit card company will usually eat the cost. You just have to report it to the credit card within 60 days of when the charge is posted to your card.
I even bought an airline ticket for $350 on my Discover card and the airline ended up disolving. I called Discover and told them I didn't receive the services for which I paid and they ended up crediting my account. Wasn't even fraud and they ate the charge. |

| in theory it sounds good to use your credit card thru paypal so that you can put in a claim and get your money back, but what i hear happens is that you will now lose your paypal account. all paypal did was transfer your money from the credit card to themselves then to the seller that you approved and they will take away your paypal priveleges if you go thru your credit card to get the money back. the seller that screwed you may get a warning, you wont be able to buy with paypal anymore. for a large amount it would be worth it, for a small amount its its not as lots of legitamate places only sell thru paypal. |

| Thanks for the heads up on the ebay scammers. I sure am glad to know this info because I use to think ebay was flawless untill I almost got buried, of course this was about a year ago. I thought ebay has been on top on it all since then but now that I know this I'll be more cautions then I already am.
Good looking out.....
