Who is still on dial up?

I've been thinking REAL hard about upgrading the home internet connetction from plain-jane dial up to high speed.

The hard part to swallow is the added cost. Right now (mostly because of an installation 'error' on my part) my dial up is free. Our old computer died last year and we 'upgraded' to a 20" iMac with the built in air port feature. It's all set up for highspeed, wireless surfing.

I sometimes feel like I'm using a 54" Plasma HDTV to watch broadcast signal over rabbit ear antennas.

I can't imagine life without high speed internet. My mom still has dialup and I am ready to punch a wall after it takes me an hour to check email.

Vitesse, my cable company will do internet without a cable TV subscription... I did it that way for a couple of years.

I'm on cable internet right now with no TV. Although I REALLY am waiting for fiber-optic to become available in my area

The Department of Justice uses dial up for some applications if you can believe that?

Bite the bullet and get at a minimum DSL (if available in your area). We shopped around and got a better deal from a local DSL provider that was way less than the phone company was offering. The dirty line thing... we made the phone company get us a clean line... it took some massaging and cajoling but got it done by talking with the supervisor's supervisor.

I suggest cable. Got the triple play package and it's very economical.

Cable is quicker than DSL.

Better yet, steal someone else's WiFi... oh wait, that's another thread.

Ya know, the funny thing is a set of rabbit ears CAN do a good job w/ HDTV. And yes, go for the DSL, its worth it.

for what I do DSL is better (have higher speed than promotional and it is better on uploads for larger files than cable is where I live)... besides the local cable 'network' really bogs down at nite here and when the kids get outta school... they advertise a speed I have yet to see delivered. Get the facts from some local users so you will know what kind of contract you are commiting to.

No cable available
No DSL available
No Wireless available

2 way Satellite - $600 install, $65/month on 3yr contract.... No thanks.

Dial up is good. Nothing like waiting for the money shots to load up while surfing pron. Sitting there, sock in hand, while the pic is stuck downloading her neck.

Good times indeed.

Amature. You need to rotate your pr0n. Load some pr0n and view it while more pr0n downloads in another window.

Works for MUD, too.

Angry DAMN Bell Canada!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Beware, I have a major beef against Bell Canada am I won't be silenced. If you are offended by foul language or mad ranting, please do not read this post any further, because there is no other way to qualify the despicable actions of that company.

We have had fiberoptic cables running on the poles into the local cental about 1000 feet away since at least January 1998, at which time the technicians doing an upgrade there assured us it was just a matter of weeks or months until we would all get high speed. But the DAMN Despots at the Main Office refuse, to this day, to let us have high speed internet and don't hesitate to lie to us saying they would have to bring lines from 25 km away, which will cost $15K to $40k (I know of one rich guy who caved in to the extortion tactics).

Since I have confronted Bell with that information, that I knew they had the cables but simply refused to make it available, the technicians have stopped answering our questions when we chat when they pass by for upgrades at the central: they've been told not to comment by the bastards in office.

Bell Canada is the worst, most abusive and profiteering company I have ever dealt with in my almost 50 years, they truly believe their customers are sheep who should just shut up and put up. I sincerly hope that one day, the managers responsible for this policy will be brought to justice, and made to pay for the suffering and aggravation they have caused. They are the scum of the earth and in some countries, behaviour like that would get you hanged, and the company bombed.

I am not saying everything I know, it's simply too outrageaos and I'd rather not get that mad, it's not healthy. Suffice it to say I'm extremely angry at them.

So I'm still on dial-up, as you have probably guessed.
