| Anyone have the Utah version of the Entertainment book? As the title asks...anyone have the Utah version of the Entertainment book? Planning a trip to Park City in Feb and wondering if there are ski resort coupons in there...I have the Denver/Colorado version and tons of coupons for the resorts around here, pretty good deals too, compared to ticket-window prices, which is probably what we will pay in Park City unless...well we find some deals..
Thanks in advance...
Mark

| This is the best place I have found for utah skiing. http://www.canyonsports.com/tickets.html Just swing into the store either the night before or in the morning to buy tickets, or if you have a firm plan you could buy them all at once. They don't charge a fee in addition to these prices like smith's does. You'll want to pick up the tickets on the way from the airport or interstate before you head up parley's canyon to park city, because they don't have a location up there, and it's a PITA to come back just for tickets.
I'm not aware of any other deals that are better, but someone else may chime in.
Good luck,
BTW Not sure if you have been to SLC before, but if your looking for more family friendly ie. easier slopes, the park city area resorts park city, deer valey, and the canyons are the place to be. If you want challenging terrain, it will be hard to find/ and very limited if you do find any at those 3 resorts. The Canyons in particular will bore the shit out of you. If that's what your looking for, Snowbird, Alta and Snowbasin are where you want to be. Solitude and Brighton are pretty sweet also, but if you only are in town for a limited time I'd try to hit those three. Snowbasin is kind of less discovered, but not empty by any means. If you get the chance on the way in or out it's worth the drive. It's quite a ways from park city, but if your willing to hike very very minimal distances (1-2min) there is some great skiing that is mostly untouched by anyone but the locals and it's all in bounds. It's similar in a lot of ways to Fernie in BC if you've been there.

| Cool..thanks Jetboy!
Been to SLC once, many years ago (choir tour in highschool ), I'm more or less just hopping onto this trip that is actually planned by my sister and many of her friends, so not sure where we are sking...I would love something challenging, but the rest of the group (like 20 people!) are all from Detroit and Cleveland, so don't think they are all super great skiers, but we'll see...
Thanks for the info...I'm sure we'll end up getting our tickets there now...

| I have the book at home. I will check it tonight and respond.. I agree with what was said above.. At many of the grocery stores around town you can find a discount pass, but as mentioned before they are going to try to charge you a surcharge. If you have any local connections you can have them hook you up with a locals pass to Deer Valley for cheap also.
If you like really challenging I would highly suggest Snowbird. The Tram takes you to the top of the mountain and gives you access to the whole resort.
If you have a Costco or Sams club membership, stop in at one because I believe I saw some deal in there the other day with Canyons...
Canyons isn't terrible if you go to the very back mountain where no one makes there way back. More challenging, and less people.
I am not sure what deal is going on right now, but check at www.skiutah.com.. Every once in a while you ca find something there.
Looking at canyon sports, it is probably the best all around deal without further searching
I'll check it out and get back to you. |

| I guess maybe I was a little harsh on the Canyons. I've had fun there, and on a powder day there is some areas out of bounds that you can hike to that are pretty fun. They also have an ampethetre in their base area that's pretty fun in the spring when it's warm they often have live bands and you can get a dring and listen to pretty good live music.
Anyway park city is the best place for fun after skiing too. If there are any shows at the egyptian theatre http://www.egyptiantheatrecompany.org/ I would recomend them. I'm not much of an art type guy and I normally wouldn't be found in a theatre, but I've had a great time at the couple shows that I have seen there. Prices vary, and it seems like they are more expensive in the winter. Anyway, just a thought if you were looking for something to do in the evening. The ones I have seen there are adult shows though. Not nudity, but adult humor. Not sure if they all are or if they are all comedy.
Oh almost forgot, in case you didn't know Alta and Deer Valley do not allow snowbording. Not sure if that's a concern, but it would be a bummer to buy tickets and find out when you get there.

I can not believe a resort would not allow snowboarding in this day...wow...just doesn't seem to make business sense to me, but maybe the market here is more kids and such than there...on certain days I'd say snowboarders are atleast 50% of the people on the mountain(s) around here...
Don't think any of our group is snowboarding (I was thinking about it, but then punched myself in the face since I haven't snowboarded in 10+ years, and decided maybe I should just ski) but thanks for the info...

| Yup, no boarding. At Alta there are a lot of traverses and trails that would truly make it difficult for a snow boarder to get around and they really would just gum up the works. As for Deer Valley it's a ritzy kinda place and they dont want the riff raff.... I own and occasionally ride a board, but to be honest I prefer a mountain without snow boarders, especially where your hiking and traversing. All they do is get in the way and get stuck, then post hole their way down the trail. I've done it. Snowboardings much easier to learn in my experience, but it's just not well suited for a lot of things.
Anyway snowboarders only make up a small portion of the ticket sales (probably less than 25%), so I guess they just figure there will be more skiers to make up for it, and I think they are right. To me it is a competitive advantage. Between two equal resort's if I'm not riding a board I'll take one without boarders. Also I don't know if they still do it, but Deer Valley used to limit the number of tickets they sold every day so it wouldn't ever get over crowded. I doubt it's an issue at $77/day though.
