Who Needs A Road

Well, not sure if this is tech but these guys did brake down a bunch. I searched and found it no where but I am sure it is here some place. This is a great read and talks vaguely about repairs and damage over a 40,000 mile trek.

I think it is tech......

Read the book earlier in the Fall. Amazing story and journey. Sent a couple emails to HS and been chatting with him back n forth now for a couple months. He lives in Bankock right now and didn't even do this trip (Who needs a Road) till he was 39 years old. After this trip, he sailed the South Pacific for 17 years before his schooner crashed off Hawaii with Lord Jim on board.

Glad to see another cruiserhead read it. It's a timeless classic adventure.

Kudos to you Sir,

Damn good read. I read it a couple years ago and want to read it again. There are also some good articles and pieces from the book in the "Toyota Trails" issue SEP/OCT 2003. Also check out "The Baja Blues" by Harold Stephens in the MAR/APR 2005 issue. It has some great vintage photos.

Dude that is a classic. EVERY Land Cruiser owner needs to read it. I thought we already all did. It needs to be reposted weekly probably.

If you pay close attention, almost all of their "break downs" did not involve the Cruiser, but their trailer or things like tires. The only real mechanical failure I remember was when the carb died at the end of the trip, after they were back in the US.

About 2/3rds through it right now, about to cross over from Pakistan to India. It's a wonder any of them made it out alive. (Don't spoil it for me, I know Willy gets killed somewhere along the way.)
