Redneck Thaksgiving in an 80

I know I am bringing down the quality and sophistication of the forum, but I think there are more closet rednecks out there than are admitting it. Well, I came out of the redneck closet this weekend. We woke up and realized weforgot to thaw the Turkey for the family Thanksgiving party 40 minutes from home. We didn't have enough time to thaw it and cook it at home. So we cooked it in the dutch oven and gained the extra 40 minutes cooking time along the freeway. Now, before you chastise me, I covered everything, no coals were lost, and the top of the rig didn't even get warm. The turkey was perfect, in fact better than those cooked in the ovens at people's home, and the veggies on the bottom of the oven were carmelized and delicious. In total it took about 2.5 hours to cook. About the same amount of time as it takes to get to a favorite camping spot. Cook it up top, have a hot meal when you arrive! I'm seeing redneck tradition all over this!

For those of you unfamiliar with dutch oven cooking, that is a "Volcano". It contains the dutch oven and coals, and regulates airflow and heat like a barbeque.

As to the heat shield, I checked it all out before putting it up there. I heated the coals in the volcano and checked the temps underneath as they were heating. It was negligible to the surface the volcano was sitting on. Then my rack puts it another 8 inches off the roof. I felt the roof when we got to our destination and it wasn't even warm.

Where you driving for Christmas and how long (miles) does a ham take? I guess that you can calculate cooking time in miles.
Hot dog= 5 miles
Frozen burrito= 7 miles
popcorn= 11 miles
etc.
