Ballot Measures

Does your State/District/County have Ballot Measures that will draw you to the polls?

Idaho has 2 propositions, 2 proposed amendments, and 1 advisory vote this election

Prop 1 - 1% sales tax earmarked for education

Prop 2 - Regulatory Takings

HJR 2 - Gay Marriage Ban

SJR 107 - Tabacco endowment fund

1. Total public smoking ban.

2. Partial public smoking ban.

The first one will make me quit smoking.

The 2nd one will make me smoke less.

Nice to see you post Beerman....

We have several devisive ones this year.

I answered no, because for me personally, they don't influence whether I vote or not. I would vote regardless of ballot measures.

We have one this year to ban gay marriage.

We also have one to overturn our ban on death penalty (the oldest in the US) and allow death penalty in cases where there is DNA evidence.

On the gay marriage thing, I'll vote no. Want to save marriage, ban divorce, don't ban marriage. I can't see how allowing gay people the same economic benefit my wife and I get from being married is at all a threat to our marriage.

On the death penalty, I'm still not sure. I have no problem with the death penalty in and of itself. However, as a deterrent of crime, it doesn't work, and economically speaking, it costs more to execute someone than it does to imprison them for life... So, while I don't oppose it on a moral standpoint, on the financial side, it doesn't make much sense to me.

There, I think I just decided. No on both.

I voted against the Gay Marriage Amendment to our state constitution. It also outlawed civil unions of any kind. I think the whole issue is a bit silly though, every co I've worked for in 10 years extends benes to significant others. And, since marriage from a government and non-religious perspective is a place to raise children, I honestly don't see why retired homosexuals need to have rights to the SO's government benefits...but that's just me. Enlighten me. I don't care if they want some sort of legal protections and POAs just don't do the trick for them. I'm sick of the issue and would like to focus on more important intitiatives for all Americans.

I voted to strengthen eminent domain, to protect from the government taking my property and giving it to another individual or corp just because their use of it will generate more tax dollars. That is a F'upd option, and I hope the practice stops nationwide.

Only other initiative was something strange about taking 30 days of for the State Senate, just like the State House does....meh

I'm with you on our stuff here in Idaho, Beerman, except Prop 1. I am vacillating, but I think the legislation ultimately is worse than it is better. There should be alternatives.

As far as the advisory, I'm dead set against it. That legislation sucks.

It's a trick. They'll allocate the 1% to education and about 30 seconds later take 1% the budget that formerly went to education out and use it for something else. Net improvement, none. Net cost: you pay more for everything.

Yep, vote no. I was looking at the voter information guide this weekend. What a bunch of bullshit. Five measures that were put there by the legislature so they didn't have to be holding the bag for voting to put a bunch of long term bond obligations. The rest are nothing more than the perogatives of various special interest groups falsely avertised as things they aren't.
