Who has a Kegerator

Alright, I am looking to get a kegerator for my bar in the basement and need to build it in. Although I can deal with the tap, I do not want to have a problem with the cooling unit being enclosed. ANybody have ideas, suggestions, experiences they want to share? I have been shopping around and am not against paying $1000 but if I could put a chunk of that into my cruiser it would be better.

Fudge! $1000! are you kidding! I'll sell you mine for $350!

I built mine for about $60. I got a full size fridge, picked up the tap, faucet, and regulator off ebay for $60 and then rented a co2 tank. The fridge was out of my neighbors garbage and the thing works great. I've got a a 1/6th barrel of killians in there right now. Mmm good. Simple as simple gets and you can't beat the freshness of the beer.

I built mine from a regular refrigerator, using a kit from Micromatic http://www.micromatic.com/draftbeer-...r-cid-705.html

I keep the co2 bottle inside the fridge, only need to cut a hole in the door for the tap. Very easy project, and the extra freezer is nice.

This looks cool, would love to see it in action:

Well, as I mentioned, I have a built in that it needs to slide under so venting and size is a bit of an issue. I did consider building one but the issue there is with the small fridges you can only fit a quarter keg due to where the compressor lives so that limits you with some of the specialty beers out there that don't come in 1/4s. Also, researching, I see some issues with chilling and condensation with a few of the models out there. Also I want front controls, some (who knows why) put the controls on the back. I am not too concerned about the appearance (just look at my 40) that can be fixed. So yeah, for a small front vented unit that will hold half keg they are pricey - jokingly pricey, so just trying to get a feel what others might have that they are happy with.

LX450- what brand is that? Are you happy? Will you pass me a cold one?

a buddy of mine made his from stuff he bought from www.kegworks.com.

They have premade unites as well as other forms of refrigeration.

You might find ideas there.

My Kegerator Built into Bar

Here are some pictures of the making of my built in kegerator. Starts with what the kegerator looked like before I created the bar (ordered it from a company in Canada on eBay...350-400 bucks). Then the progression of the bar build. The bar is completely "take apartable" and has withstood a move from Kansas to Nebraska to Georgia to Maine...everything still works great!

I have had no problems with overheating and freezing inside due to the build around it. It sits on top of two of the 2x4 cross beams and has about 6 inch clearance above it and 4 inch clearance in the back and sides. No problems at all. I am not sure of the brand off the top of my head. I will check the fridge when I get home. Let me know if you would like any other pictures, bar dimensions, etc.

I had one for years. Get a lock for the tap if you ever leave it alone. I had mine on the back porch so it had to be locked, neighbors had teens.

I eventually gave it to my BIL who home brews. Now he has four fountain syrup canisters in it, that's what he finished his beer in. He has quick connects on each for the tap and CO2. I'm trying to get him to add three more tap heads but he'se to cheap. If you ever home brew this is the way to go, bottling all that beer cuts into your drinking time.

Yeah I do a lot of home brewing. THat is my main reason for wanting a kegerator - well maybe my main reason is casue I drink so much damn beer
