Make a difference

We could all sit here and argue politics, or we could go out and make a difference and save a life.

GIVE BLOOD TODAY!!!!

It takes 30 minutes of your time, but may add a lifetime to another.

unfortunately even that is political.
When I lived in manhattan (96 to 2002) I gave blood regularely (have the gallon-club card to prove it). Then some dumbass passed a law that one cannot give blood when having been in europe prior to 92 or something. Now I live in San Diego, and I am refused when I give-despite being very healthy.
I understand that this is mostly based on the BSE incidences in Britain, but this is a really dumb decision. For example elk wasting desease, which is the same as BSE, is MUCH more prevalent in the US than BSE ever was in europe.

So, I keep my blood, and the poor mofo who needs it, gets screwed.

It's more of a FDA requirement than anything else. Sometimes they follow the "better safe than sorry" line of thinking...in the case of blood, I don't think it's a bad idea.

Seriously, I have been giving blood for years, over fifty pints.

It is the best charity you can give. 100% of your donation goes to the end user, it doesn't cost you anything, they feed you after (makes for a cheap date) and you can get drunk for less money after you donate.

I got a little ticked off when they started asking about my sexual habits and traveling habits due to possibility of HIV but I got over it. It is a good way to get my BP checked every few months without going to the doctor.

And...I get to catch up on the current events by reading last years Time and Newsweek as I eat my free soup and cookies.

Damn, I try to post a positive thread that would hopefully remain TUTless, and it turns political.

I give blood. It saves lives, and I thought I would remind everyone to do the same.

Actually, you should be proud of all the ridicule and flippant responses to your thread. You've discounted and written off so many other people's responses and thoughts for so long, it shouldn't be a surprise at all.

So enjoy, Beerman. You've earned it.
