best 5 gallon water storage with spigot?
The cheap 5 gallon water container I bought at bass pro shop got punctured and is now useless for my off road forays. Who has suggestions on a durable / tough 5 gallon water jug that has a built in spigot?

That is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for the link and pic. How thick is the plastic? Does it feel robust?

It's thick enough that I can stand on it while it's empty! Granted, I'm no 300lb hoss (more like half that), but it's not going to break. I even intentionally pushed it off the tailgate of my FJ80 while it was full of water to see what would happen - nothing. I'd rather it break in my driveway, than in the middle of nowhwere. I'm sure if you caught the spigot just right, you might be able to snap it off, but you'd have to be trying pretty hard.
The material these are made of is WAY more substantial than the average Reliant brand water jugs.

I have used the swiss army collapsible rubber bladders. Those are great. Very sturdy.
Also used a less substantial collapsible plastic cubic "bag" for road trips.
advantage of both is that they don't take any room when empty. That is nice! The former also can be used as a hot water shower if left in the sun.

These look much nicer.

I haven't had any leaks whatsoever out of mine, but it's not very old. The way it feels/seals though - I don't see it ever being an issue.

Im using a Scepter can with a bulkhead fitting and spout from Mcmaster. Works great and does not leak a drop.
BTY this is one of the favorite mods.

a bit of Teflon tape will cure that

I have used those but the water tastes like rubber :( Is there anything you have done to get rid of that??

As many times as I've used that stuff, never even crossed my mind! Worth a try!

Reliance 7-gal. Aqua-Tainer - Blue : Target
It does not have very thick material, and it holds 7 gallons, but what I like about it as that it is easier for me to pack, as it does not want to tip over. Works fine for me, and fits perfectly in the front floor board of the 40

These are the ones I have. I do like the way they pack and the amount of water they hold. Hopefully the teflon tape will solve the spigot threads leaking.

it's not that bad. I am not that particular about water, admittedly, though. Drank some nasty water in my youth... Then again, I use the bladders and containers mostly for other uses than drinking (washing, cooking, emergency reserve etc). I usually put frozen bottles of water in the cooler (previously) or fridge (currently, YEA!) that I use for drinking on short trips.
But I would guess that a few drops of chlorine in water and rinsing might help? (And, of course, I don't keep water in there between trips so it's pretty fresh when I use it).

I think that would result in water that tasted like rubber spiked with chlorine.
A better approach might be one of the filter type pitcher systems.

First I have seen the gerican type above with the spigot in the bottom, very cool.
This is my second season though using a water cooler bottle with one of those battery pumps.
It works great.

You must be a hardcore wheeler . I hauled my 5 year old Coleman jug through the Fordyce Creek Trail last weekend with no problems.

dang, I have one of those big blue 5 gals or is it 7 gals Reliance water jugs with the white plastic spigot. Sure enough I was stepping over it and my foot hit the spigot and it sheared right off.... My bad.
Got a 3/4" little plug to fit in its place. Less convenient but still usable.

Check the links out in this post: http://forum.ih8mud.com/camping-outd...ml#post4810151 Many plastic spigots. Likely one will fit as a replacement.
