I have a kershaw black boa for camping, a beat up old gerber multi in the truck as well a a cool lockblade Swiss army knife.

If I had to carry a knife it would be my Randall Model 15. I would be in jail though! Without a doubt the best knife made. This thread made me go order another; 3.5 year wait!

I have the spyderco rescue that I use at work pretty much every day. That and someone gave me a smith & wesson knife a couple of years ago that has held up pretty good in the marine/salt environment. The spyderco is really good though.
On the bad side, I bought a buck, which used to be made locally here in SD. And the blade just broke. I have to take it back.

At work....

Husky razor knife(looks like a pocket knife, but uses replaceable razor blades) These are GREAT for crap work that tears knives up. I go through about a blade every 2-3 weeks, but nothing beats a fresh razor blade for sharpness, and I never have to worry about using it as a screwdriver or hammer or whatever.

CRKT M16-12Z It's the half-serrated tanto style blade. I've had it for a little over a year and a half and I've only had to sharpen it once, and only because I dropped it and nicked the blade.

All this talk on knives got me thinking of my desire for a decent carry knife. I wanted a folding, single blade, half serated, with clip, locking. So anyway did some searching and decided on this guy.

Great knife! I saw a guy with a similar version of this knife this past week at my construction outing in Mexico. When the rest of us were looking for a sharpening stone at the end of the day, he just tosses the blade and replaced it with a new one!

I have carried a spyderco for about 8 years, does great for me, fairly cheap, clip is strong for when I catch it on the cruiser seat belt and try to get out of the car,, I always know where it is, I have one in every car,,
I have had the leatherman, the way the handle is hurts my hands,,, I know
I have had a gerber on my side for at least 8 years, lost one, and I abuse the hell out of it on the farm, cutting fence wire, electrical wire, hay string,,, wrenching, gripping, onehanded opening for jaws (downside is not for knives),,,
I just broke it Thursday night attempting to pull a 20p nail out of an electrical box prying sideways,,, again,, I know better,,,broke the screw driver tip off, so I dont know if it is the strongest tool, but the flip opening is great, and comfy using it too!!!

I've had my Gerber for a few years now.
It's served me fairly well, but the quality of it is not what it was in years past.
The knives don't hold their edges very well, and it's very difficult to keep the mechanisms
clean in my work environment.
When I replace it (soon, as most of the implements are either broken or dull) I won't go with
a Gerber. What I will go with I haven't decided yet.
Last time I was looking, there was one (might have been a SOG) with Ti jaws and prybar.
That would be a good deal if I could find it again.

And after reading up on this thread when it first started, I went with a CRKT M-18-12. Good
knife. Mechanism is smooth as silk, even after days and days of working on/around
construction equipment in the silty environment of AZ. Easy to keep clean and holds its
edge better than any knife I've ever used. I just run it across a kitchen steel once a month
and it'll take my finger off if I'm not careful.
And I got lucky. It was accidentally marked $20 at my local camping shop.

I got this for myself for a Christmas gift and have so far been very happy with it for a daily knife. I think the Benchmade is a very good quality knife, I don't know that it's heads above any other knife in the same price range. For me the best thing about this knife is that it doesn't have a liner lock. The next best things are size and weight fit within what I would want in a daily knife.

I like the Axis lock a lot. I did have a spring break in my old 710, usually Benchmade wants you to send it in for repair. They were good enough to send me the part to fix it myself, as these knives sometimes get confiscated at the border. If the lock isn't tightened up REAL tight they'll take it.

sorry, between the US and Canada. If the pivot is not tightened, the blade can be opened with a flick of the wrist, a no-no with canada customs.

The stupid(er) thing is, axis lock Benchmades can be purchased in stores in Canada!

Guess I should have mentioned that. Benchmade Mini Griptillian 556.

Looking at the S30V I can't tell much difference between that and the griptillian except for a slightly different blade design. I assume another difference would be the alloy being the S30V vs the 440C although I don't know the difference between the two.

The S30V is the main difference. Higher quality steel, holds an edge for a long time. Very nice stuff, usually at a premium price. On a BM Griptillian at around $100, it's a bargain, IMHO.

My Randal Knife is by far my favorite. It was a gift from my brothers a few years back. Hand made with a stag handle. They also make tacticle knives.

I collect Spyderco knives, I love the spyder-hole for opening the knife over anything else. for me they have the best designs and very ergonomic oriented although they can be ugly at times. Form follows function.

I also really like the Benchmade, very nicely designed knives and one think that is different from Spyderco is they use a brass liner where the knife pivots which makes the opening and closing very smooth. Also Benchmade has the Axis-Lock which is awesome and has been dubbed the strongest lock out there.

gerber multitool, I always thought I wanted the leatherman, but a buddy gave me his used gerber, under constant abuse (probably used 6-24 times a day)it took me 4 years to break it. immediately bought another, and I think it was 40 bucks or so.
