Hannibal Awning

Anybody out there sporting a Hannibal Awning? I have done a search, but have not found an answer to my question. Can someone describe how the Hannibal awning opens and closes.? I understand the arms fold out and the canvas hooks on the extended arms. My questions is when you close it, do you need to fold the canvas like a flag and hand roll it closed or is on a roller?

Im assuming the Hannibal rolls up.. but im not sure. Another option you should look into would be the Fiamma awning. This is the route we took and it's super light/strong also. Adventuretrailer sells them in Upland. We found that the Fiamma did the job with a heck of alot less stress on our already loaded rack.

I’m currently in South Africa and have an opportunity to pick up some overland gear. I really wanted to get a Hannibal awning, but even here at a very favorable exchange rate they are very pricy. African Outback has a similar awning that looks and operates like the Hannibal, but at half the price.

I liked the pictures of your awning, but I don’t want to have any legs on the awning. The African Outback awning uses the two fold out arms and you manually unroll the canvas for use. I’m trying to determine if the Hannibal awning is also manual or if it has a retractable mechanism

Thanks for the close up pictures. Just what I needed to see. Yes, the two awnings are very similar. But, boy, that Hannibal awning looks stout!! For half the price though, the African Outback looks pretty strong too! I going to pick it up and ship it in the morning.

where in south africa are you? ill be heading over that way end of aug do you have any recomendations on good off road shops while im over there (i think we have the same ideas about getting good over there)

The two best shops I visited were 4x4 Mega World & Safari Centre.

fellas,

The Hannibal awning looks like about a 4' outriggers. Is that right? If that's the case, that doesn't look like much of an awning IMO!

Oooooh, that's a nice coverage and the system looks quite stout. One must have a decent rack system in order to support that counterweight. Thanks for the pic.

It's very stout. I have a 7' on the FJ62. Sorry I'm late to the thread, have been busy wrenching.

It is all a manual process, but very easy to do. There are well-placed velcro strips to further tighten things up, a zipper for enclosure attachments, and it is built to fit around the edges of the arms. Works awesome. Let me know if you want any closeup shots.

The nice thing about the hannibal awning is there are no poles that come down to the ground which is what i like. poles are more stuff to set up, more stuff to break, more stuff to loose. not to mention if your wheeling and camping in ruff spots you dont have to stack rocks or sand so the poles will reach or sit right

I apologize up front if this has been discussed but I searched and searched....

Is anyone using the side panels on the Hannibal Awning? How difficult are they to attach? How long does it take? I'm thinking of the situation where it is pouring rain and you have to jump out of the vehicle to set up the awning and side panels.

I've got the 5' Hannibal awning w/ the sides. I have mine mounted on a "Crosstread-Renegade" rack behind my RTT to the rear of my rig. The awning is super quick and easy to set up and take down (even in the wind and rain). The (3) sides zip together vertically and have a hook and grommet system that mates up w/ the botom edge of the awning. It's fairly easy to put up once under the shelter of the awning; about a 5 min setup. Removal of the sides is not as quick. We use ours frequently here in the Pacific Northwest.
I would recommend a stout rack w/ this system as it creates a bit of a lateral load. (got mine from BritishAtlantic Ltd. , a Hannibal USA dealer.)
