Anyone have any cool Conferr roof rack mods?

I've got two. . .

I was checking out some of my old off road adventure magazines and I spotted that XXXpedition cherokee that had a pretty pimped out conferr rack on it. I'm looking for some cool mods to add to mine and customize it . . .

So far I fabbed up some light brackets and added some simple snaps for a canopy setup. How about flooring ideas and other trick stuff to throw up! Bring on the mods. . .

I have one for my '75 Bronco. Found it completely useless without a floor, so I made one out of wood. Now I'm running a soft top on the Bronco, so the rack and metal top just sit on the side of the house.

Ya it is definetly floor time. . . I am thinking aluminum strips to save weight but it sounds really expensive too. I like the con-ferr brand accesorries as well, but they were expensive so I made my own.

Hi,
I've had a ConnFerr rack on my 88 4Runner since 1996. Mine is a bolt together model (I got the bait and switch from 4WheelParts, cuz I specifically ordered the welded model).
Anyhoo, I put down 1/4" plywood (primed and painted) cut to fit and attached to crossbars w/flathead stainless machine screws and nylock nuts. It's a very clean look and is fairly quiet at highway speeds. You can climb up and walk around, set up chairs, watch fireworks.
I have had to paint the rack twice and replace the plywood once, in 10 years. You can do a LOT with paint now. Make wood look like metal, for instance. At a fraction of the cost of metal bits.
As for mods, I had big plans after our big trip last summer to build a campshower (solar- bag) set up, complete with privacy stall and towel rack.
Then we had to go buy a 100 series and the ConFerr rack from my beloved 4runner is too narrow to fit the fat a#% MallCruiser.

Do a search on my user id for reference. How can I attach a previous topic on this tag line?

Anyways, I thought the mod came out looking pretty sweet and functional.

ConFerr Rack Restoration

I'm in the process of restoring a 5' X 8' Conferr rack now. It came off my 1971 FJ55. Taking it down to bare metal and painting with Rust Bullet to make sure NO problems in future. I'm planning on a galvanized screen floor for it so it will drain when not loaded (Ideas?). I also plan to mount the highlift jack on it. If anyone has any old Conferr accessories taking up space PM me and we'll see if we can solve that space issue for a cash donation? When done it'l go on my FJ60.

Thanks

I have two ConFer racks. One 2' and one 6'. Both modded. The 2' has a wood plank floor with a custom Hi-lift attachment, Hi-lift plate and CO2 tank support. The 6' has a Farm-tek poultry cage floor with Grougo's bars. Looking for pics.

I bought a piece of expanded steel that I plan on welding to the rack as a floor base. Once that gets installed I plan on figuring out how to attach my hi-lift. Not sure if my axe and shovel will go up there yet.

rack on trailer

I took a rack that I had for a 40 and narrowed it down to fit on a M-416 trailer for my rooftop tent. It was the 5'x5' made it 4'x5'.I still need to make a floor but so far it is working great without it, I can store a table, canopy and camp chairs under the tent without a full bottom on the rack.

You can weld 1/8" thick steel bars to the rack so you can attach the hi lift brand mount to it like I did...

Here is my second, larger ConFer rack. For this one I used chicken coop flooring from FarmTek for the floor:

egg xactly what I did as well. Won't be seeing any rust issues on the flooring any time soon. lol.

First used heavy duty zip ties to secure the flooring to the rack but that only lasted about a year in my super hot during summer weather....the zip ties got brittled... I resecured the floor with a bag or 2 of home depot hose clamps. working out great now.

These interlock so I just used large fender washers and bolts on the four corners. Its not going anywhere.
