Favorite car hoist?

Hello,
Last week I picked upmy first LC, a well rusted '78 FJ40 that is mechanicly sound. A perfect island rig. We all fight who gets to drive it next.

Now that a new project is here its time to bite the bullet and get a car hoist. We have a shop with 16' of headroom and a 20' wide bay.

Any pointers to what type of hoist, from who?

THX-Brad

I know they have issues but I can get it for FREE

Near as I can figure, you are going to get to find out first hand how much a free hoist really costs.

Good luck!

Favorite car hoist?

When I was considering building a new garage (before I lost my job) I was looking at the Mohawk based on Christo's recommendation. I spent a lot of time talking to folks and their seemed to be the best. Expensive though, but solid. You could go around to some local garages and talk to the mechanics - my dealer for example (one of the few good guys) let me know who he talked to in newark to get a used Rotary for $800. I know Koffer has two lifts in his garage he picked up used. You can save a ton this way.

If you do go with the lifts, make sure your concrete is solid enough. Most require 4" of I think 3,000 psi. I could be wrong on that since it's off the top of my head, but you could always jackhammer some out and poor some new. If you do this, then you could run the hydr. lines through conduit in the floor and save the overhead space etc.

Re:Favorite car hoist?

Not for me. For the same reasons that Gumby pointed out earlier...

My two post Grand 9K lift has worked great, and I do not know what I ever was doing without one.

Good luck!

It's a lot harder to work on the center of the rig with an inground lift. Transmision/clutch work is near impossoble, exhaust work is a lot harder also

Not that it is a reason to buy one, but when I clicked on the link, the banner add at the bottom of the page was to http://www.cruizers.com/.

I think somewhere around $2200-2400. I dont think they were 2 out of line with all the others. I believe they also advertise in Hemmings - not sure if they list prices.
HTH.
